The Otaornai Backpacker's Hostel Morinoki, hotel in Otaru

Otaornai Backpacker's Hostel Morinoki is for free and independent travelers in Hokkaido Otaru. No good for small group or family.

Full spread local breakfast for ¥500, definitely worth it! Breakfast varied each day. It’s uphill to get to so prepare for a hike, place was a wonder full of books and surrounded by greenery. Would like to stay during winter to enjoy the snow from inside.

Good location and walk by 10 minutes to arrive from Otaru JR station. Also close to channel and warehouse tourist areas. The reception staff is friendly and patience to introduce hostel facilities. Very nice to offer a welcome drink after check-in. The facilities are well equipped and the common area is large which makes me feel convenient and comfortable to stay. The bed is comfortable as well. Recommend for budgeted travelers to stay here when traveling to Otaru.

The best hostel I've ever stayed in, quiet, felt like home. Wonderful owner and staff, I got a nice Japanese breakfast, too. Will hopefully come back soon!

Probably the best hostel i’ve ever stayed at that i decided to write review for the first time. Super cosy lobby and spacious toilets (even bigger than hotel toilets in japan). The whole hostel was also spotlessly clean and organised which really impressed me comparing to other hostels i’ve stayed at.

I stayed in a dormitory room but I was surprised to find it wasn't a bunk bed but a narrow room with a curtain at one end. The high ceiling was very nice after staying in capsule or bunk beds for weeks. I liked the vibe of the place so much that I asked to extend my stay an extra night. Also the coin laundry is the cheapest I've seen.

Best hostel I’ve stayed at in Japan. Been to quite a few. The manager here, Daigo (I think it’s spelled) is the nicest and super friendly. Easy to stop early and leave bags, good location from the stations and walking to the canal and around town. Super nice bar and lounge, as well as the dorm! Wish I could have stayed longer. Will for sure be back
