We were in Edinburgh for The Fringe & usually stay in the city centre but prices were so high this year we chose to stay a little further out & use the bus. Roost Hill was in a fantastic location for this - the no 33 bus is so close by it was as easy as being further into the city, & it runs 3x per hour, is reliable & tickets are only £2 a single for any distance, it seemed. The location was great for the city centre, & the hospitality & presentation of Roost Hill were excellent. We were able to leave bags safely when we arrived very early, & leave them securely at the end of our stay & return to collect them later so it was very convenient. The breakfast each morning was something we looked forward to each day. It was restaurant quality (wife asked for a recipe) and the soft background music (personal note here) was spot on. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The property is located near a bus stop, so getting around isn’t an issue. Lastly, it’s a 2 minute (max) skip down to the beach. It’s one block away.

The rooms are clean, charming, and equipped with everything you might need, with the exception of a microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom was very clean. The owner was an absolute dream. She was nice and very helpful. I had the vegetarian breakfast and it was delicious. There is a bus stop two minutes away which is very convenient if you plan to ride the bus into the city center. The fare for a single trip on the bus, since it is a Lothian country bus, is £3 and you must have exact change to buy a ticket on the bus.

And, ice on the cake, Nicola our host was very kind, friendly and helpful.

Brunton House was an extremely pleasant experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our mattress was a little hard for my partners hips however, this was easily remedied by the addition of a mattress topper. Hilary was very helpful in this matter. The continental breakfast was always tasty and frequently replenished, plenty of fresh fruit and pastries. Lovely coffee as well. Brunton House is easily placed for walking into the city centre and is on the main bus routes if you require we like walking so we felt easily placed to visit new and old locations we had seen before.
