Located the market squarein Fairford, The Bull Hotel is a Grade II listed coaching inn featuring an on-site restaurant with private-dining and traditional pub bar serving local craft beers, spirits... The pub downstairs was great. Met great neighbours, gave us great tips to explore the next day.
A good base for exploring The Cotswolds. Away from the very touristy areas but everything within easy driving distance. Good local Italian Restaurant. Great pub at Marston Meysey,The Old Spotted Cow. Everyone really friendly.
We strolled around town after checking into The Masons Arms, and it was exactly what we had hoped for in visiting the Cotswolds. We particularly liked the way locals gathered on the green near the B&B. Very friendly and inviting. We just happened to come across the old churchyard when Margaret was driving up to lock the church for the night. She offered to show us the church and took great pride in pointing out some of the ancient architectural features, explaining a bit about their origin.
I liked Marston Meysey itself. I also liked the little villages and towns nearby, such as Quennington and Fairford. Many beautiful villages are easy to reach from Marston Meysey if you have a car. It is a good spot from which to explore the Cotswolds, and appreciate how lovely this area is.
Lots of things to do in the area, we particularly liked the Cotswold Sculpture park and Kelmscot Manor. Restaurants in Cricklade were good. The village is nice to walk around with a small post office / shop a few yards away. The outside of the house was still being done up but the inside was nice and comfortable. To get to the parking you had to drive onto the building site at the back but this was not a problem.
Fabulous. Had everything you could want. Plenty of beautiful walks on the doorstep and further afield. Highly recommend the Colosseo Italian Restaurant, very attentive waiters, food was great and the house red was very good indeed. Great prices too. Local cafes, with their own take on spacialist food, 7a for their amazing brownies and great coffee. Local fishing lakes or the river for Carp and trout respectively. If I could move there I would :)
Booking.Com's confusing booking scheme. I was asked to pay by card online, which I did and had a receipt. It even said any extra's will have to be paid to the Masons Arms before leaving. When we came to leave I had to pay for the stay, as Booking.Com hadn't paid them. I now have to wait for a statement to see if I have paid twice, and claim one back if so!
