The staff was very kind, as expected from a family owned ryokan. The bath area is small, but you schedule your personal bath time. Food is incredible, a must try when visiting Zao. Location is near the main attractions, like the cable car is reachable by walking. Lots of nearby onsens.

Hamabeno Ryouriyado Houraikan ligger i Kamaishi, 1,3 km fra Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium, og har offentligt bad og udendørs bad samt værelser med aircondition. Houraikan will always have a very special place in my heart because of the proprietress Akiko-san and her team. I was touched by their story of how they overcame the tsunami, and by their genuine warmth and kindness. Having been to many ryokans, I am familiar with the high standards of service but Houraikan went above and beyond. Their greetings and smiles are more than politeness but genuine warmth and earnestness, which you can feel. Akiko-san went out of her way to take photos for me as I was a solo traveller. She also brought me around Kamaishi, proudly introducing attractions along the way, giving me recommendations and even accompanying me to the tourist centre to get a town map, and then to the museum where she asked that the museum staff take good care of me. When a fire alarm rang in the middle of the night on one night, Akiko-san was so apologetic for disturbing my rest and even though I reassured her that it was alright, she waived the cost of my sake and the usual bath tax as a sincere apology. She also gave me extra snacks and a bandana as a farewell gift. All the staff at Houraikan are warm, friendly and very thoughtful. For example, once I wanted to use the washing machine but it was being used. One of the staff later went out of his way to knock on my room door to let me know that the washing machine had become available for my use. Furthermore, it was lovely to bathe in the lovely open-air wood bath with such a pleasant smell and to soak in the onsen water while listening to the sound of the majestic ocean as it is so close to the shore. The futon is also something special - they have got the most comfy blanket, futon and pillow. I pray for more people to discover the beauty of Houraikan - it is not just the surrounding ocean that is beautiful, it is more than anything the heart of the people at Houraikan that makes it special!

Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya har naturlige varme kilder og ligger 15 minutters gang fra JR Tendo Station og 50 km fra Sendai. Der er gratis wi-fi overalt og gratis privat parkering på stedet. Beautiful property. The room was spacious! Even for Western standards. The private onsen was very nice. We did not try the public onsen. The staff were courteous and helpful. Although the staff had limited English proficiency, they all used a translation app to help with communication which was incredibly helpful.

Tamonkan ligger i en historisk japansk bygning omgivet af hellige bjerge og uberørt natur. Der serveres gratis te og snacks. Dewa Shrine ligger 8 minutters gang derfra. Der er gratis WiFi overalt. Amazing food and beautiful traditional ryokan. Dinner was one of the best meals I have eaten anywhere in my life. The owner's wife and mother prepared and beautifully presented a perfect Japanese dinner, and breakfast (Japanese) was also incredible. Our room was the oldest (100 years) but the whole place dripped with authenticity and good taste. We stayed in early January and it was very cold in the hallways but rooms had gas heaters to keep you cozy. The walk from the front door to the top of Mount Haguro was about an hour and a half with deep compacted snow covering the famous 2446 steps. A truly memorable experience.

Shikitei Morioka TsunagiOnsen ligger 7 minutters gang fra Gosho-søen og tilbyder gratis wi-fi samt indendørs og udendørs varme kilder. Togstationen JR Morioka ligger 25 minutters kørsel fra... The included meals were beyond our expectations. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our dietary requirements and properly communicate them with us. We had a room with our own private open air bath which was very easy to use and adjust. All the amenities were very clean and easy to access as well.

Komatsukan Kofu-tei ligger lige foran Matsushima-bugten og tilbyder indkvartering med gratis internet via kabel. Excellent location within walking distance of key attractions. Beautiful view of bay from room and onsen. Excellent service with staff using technology like AI translator to serve you better. Room is thoughtfully furnished with remote control for the lights so that you need not get up from futon. Amenities were great too - hair scrunchie, face care kit etc.

The property is facing a beautiful lake and it’s a relaxing setting for those busy people coming to decompress there. They have outdoor and indoor, private Onsen ofurô, and the room was wide and spacious, including areas such as bathroom and shower, with separation of spaces, providing privacy. The eating/working room was across from the room which allowed my husband to read and check emails without distractions. All in all it’s a well thought space setting. Kudos to the architect.
