Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. Location was good with many options of onsen, and some open 24x7. Food was excellent with the usual breakfast and dinner omakase type.

Featuring a spa bath, Shikinosato Hanamura is located in Minamioguni. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. It was super comfortable to stay here, staff service, facilities, breakfast and dinner were all great. Is a good place to relax.

Situated in Aso, 42 km from Kumamoto Castle, Syukubo Aso features accommodation with a public bath. We loved our stay here from the minute we arrived! The dinner is FANTASTIC - it is beautifully presented but also tastes amazing, and it’s so fun to cook some of it at the table. The staff (especially the lady who checked us in and served us dinner) is so attentive and helpful - and a great chef. We stayed 2 nights and spent the day in the middle dipping in an out of the private onsen, exploring the surrounding village and just chilling in our room which were tatami style. the whole place was beautifully rustic - it felt like stepping back in time and being properly pampered. The snacks and green tea in the room, and downstairs morning coffee area are an added bonus! we will 100% come back here and will recommend to all our friends!

Built in 1722, Okyakuya is situated in the historical district of Kurokawa Onsen district. Located only 100 metres from Kurokawa Onsen, Free WiFi is provided and private parking is available on site. Breakfast and dinner that was provided was really good. Staff was really attentive and welcoming as well. They prepared decaf tea for us, even making sure that the meal was catered to what you asked for (no raw food, no beef etc). They helped us to parked the car, and even help to clean the exterior of our car! Room was great to experience local culture. Private onsen facilities was wonderful as well, just need to queue for it.

Minshuku Asogen, a property with a garden, is situated in Aso, 29 km from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto, 38 km from Kumamoto Castle, as well as 38 km from Suizenji Park. Best Japan experience so far. Everything was great, from the room, the food (dinner + breakfast), the private onsen rooms till the parking in from of the hotel. The welcome was very friendly and relaxed. Everything was explained very clearly.

Kurokawa Onsen Yama no Yado Shinmeikan features 5 hot-spring baths, including a 30-metre long cave bath. The osen experience is unique. We did the cave and the open-air osen. The old building, and the open-fire grill for dinner, the beef, etc... It is right next to the river and it is in the center of the town. Very conveniently located. A lot of tourists take selfies in front of the buildings so it is a destination on its own.

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. Accommodation with in-room onsen was superb. Meals were exceptional. Staff were very attentive. The ryokan onsen really felt like a traditional Japanese inn with comfortable modern ammenities. There were nooks and corners around the ryokan to sit and relax and laze around.

Situated in the centre of the Kurokawa Onsen Area and boasting a total of 8 indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Nanjoen offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with tatami (woven-straw) flooring... Everything; the hospitality of the staff, kaiseki in private dining room, the room, and private onsen.

Surrounded by forest, tranquil Yamashinobu features public and private hot spring baths, an astronomical observatory and a piano. The food is amazing! Love the private bath.

Boasting spacious indoor and outdoor hot spring baths surrounded by lush greenery, Ryokan Wakaba provides Japanese-style accommodation in the peaceful mountain area. The best dinner we had on our trip, really outstanding. Service was incredible (the Vietnamese girl who served our dinner was bright and delightful). Outdoor o send lovely.
