We received by far the best hospitality we have ever experienced at a hotel, and the room and meals were outstanding as well. We stayed in a “Studio with Spa Bath” room, and the in-room tub overlooking the river (with a window that opened) was just as decadent and relaxing as we had hoped. The staff were extremely nice and made us feel so welcome and cared for. Our breakfasts were also delightful introductions to Japanese breakfast cuisine—so beautiful and tasty. Thank you so much to the Hotel Wakamizu team!

It was a legitimate Onsen located right on the hot spring. The hosts were gracious and explained the rules which made us feel comfortable. The baths were therapeutic. The on-site meals (dinner and breakfast) are worth getting. Delicious food prepared before your eyes.

The location of this hotel is secluded, tucked away from the shops, making it a very private and relaxing retreat.
With only a few dozen guest rooms, it's very quiet and we hardly encountered other guests during our stay. The service provided by the staff was impeccable, and the surroundings were simply stunning. The room offered comfort, and the meals served were exceptional (even comes with cooking performances which was a surprise for us).

Two meals we had there were exceptional. Served in our room. Service was excellent too. We did pay quite a bit for what we got. But it was worth it.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Unfortunately this was a very small onsen town that most people wouldn't visit but because of that the staff were incredible as they weren't used to non japanese tourists. They bent over backwards to help us and inform us of how things work.
The room had a large window overlooking the river and it was very zen watching the sunset.
The private onsen was wonderful and i couldn't recommend the experience enough. If you want to get off the beaten track i would recommend this place as a great reset after a hectic japanese schedule.
