Shiroyamakan, hotel in Shirakawa

Shiroyamakan is a recently renovated ryokan in Shirakawa where guests can make the most of its free bikes and garden. The 4-star ryokan is 29 miles from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village.

Very well kept considering the age of the property. It is also perfectly adorned with just the right amount of decorations. The river running through beside the property was a bonus. Our room was right next to it. It was also a short walking distance to the village. The staff, all family members of the owner, were so wonderful and accommodating. The owner also gave a tour of the village all the way up to the observation deck were you see the entire Shirakawago village. We were sad to leave.

Hotel Kikori, hotel in Shirakawa

Spacious air conditioned rooms feature a flat-screen TV, a seating area and a mountain view.

Everything was great. Comfortable stay. Japanese style dinner and breakfast (Kaiseki) was delicious. Great strong coffee in the morning was also great especially since I'm a coffee drinker. Also many varieties of tea to choose from for those who prefer tea. Great view of the mountains once the dense morning fog lifted. Recommended for those who want to have a real Japanese style experience.

Location was absolutely fantastic and only a short drive to the Shirakawago heritage sites. The onsens were also lovely and the surroundings were quite special. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had a great view from the room. All the ryokan esque facilities (lounge wear, free beverages etc) all topped it off. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.
