Exceptional stay! Wife and I stayed for 2 nights. Inn itself was well maintained, not a single stain to be found. The grounds were beautiful, our room was overlooking a small river and every morning it was a scene straight out a movie, made even better when it was drizzling on the second day. The public onsen was tattoo friendly but we opted for the private option as we wanted to bathe together. The private onsen was easy to book and really relaxing (temp was moderate which is right up our alley as other onsen that we’ve been to were always scalding hot). Best part of the experience was the service by Yukari who was the co-owner of the inn together with her husband. She spoke excellent English which made our time there much more convenient. She took time to tell us about the history of the inn, give local recommendations as well as explain the different dishes at mealtimes. You can really tell that she took pride in their traditions and history. She was also really quick to attend to our needs (changed our hard pillows to softer ones, cleaned up a bunch of bugs that were crowding around the lights). She even chased us down when we were leaving to give us parting snacks!

A unique, authentic Japanese experience. Lovely staff who were extremely welcoming and helpful. The in-room dinner service was wonderful and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I really unique experience. The onsen was very quiet (Sept) and we had it to ourselves which was also great.

This was our best stay at a Ryokan. The serene surroundings, beautiful facilities, and amazing staff who took wonderful care of all our needs. They also catered exceptionally well with wonderful local ingredients for our half vegetarian half non-vegetarian family. AMAZING!

A perfect Onsen in a lush Forrest next to the Sumon river. The different Onsen with public and private ones are fantastic, all of them with outside bath. The rooms are nicely designed and renovated with balcony and all needed amenities. The food (Kaiseki) is delicious, the host is very helpful (in English if required).

Rankeisou is a genuine Japanese Inn, a local gem for one unforgettable experience! Everything was perfect for our last night in Japan, from the greeting to the onsen and finishing with a multiple course dinner, my wife and I felt great! Thank you once again to our host that had the patience to sit with us and tell us more about the place and culture. We will definitely visit again.

Beautiful building in a beautiful location, extremely nice and helpful staff, and the food was excellent, too. The onsen were smaller than they had looked in the pictures, but it was a bliss to be in the outdoor onsen, surrounded by snow.
