The staff is amazing. They’re so attentive and treat you like royalty the hotel rooms or original Japanese furnishings which makes it feel very authentic. They also help you with Shuttle bus services when you need it the chef is fabulous and I can’t say enough about how meticulous and delicious his cooking was. He took our dietary restrictions, very seriously and made fabulous meals. I especially love the check in where they seated us. We didn’t have to stand all. They explained the detail details of our stay.
Biwako Ryokusuitei offers Japanese-style/Western rooms with Lake Biwako views, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

The hotel and facilities are beautiful. The breakfast is wonderful. The shabu-shabu dinner on our first night was first class. We enjoyed the onsen on our balcony with the gorgeous lake view. The kimonos were a nice touch.

Really loved the understated elegance of this place and would rate it best of the four places we stayed in Japan on this trip to Japan (which included a 5-star historic hotel). The staff was extremely helpful, and it had the right touches over a traditional Ryokan which made it suitable for an extended stay (we stayed 4 days). Situated on a quiet street on a canal and within walking distance of Kyoto station (13 minutes by foot) with a cozy brew pub nearby (Kyoto Beer Lab). And the Japanese breakfast served right to your room was just an awesome way to start your day (and each day it was slightly different).
Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from lively Nishiki Market and Ponto-cho Street, Matsui Honkan features large public baths and chic Japanese-style rooms.

This place was pretty great! I liked that the rooms were like an apartment without a kitchen. Very spacious. The staff were very friendly always helpful. The breakfast there was delicious and loved the public baths there. While we had our own private shower/bath in our room, I enjoyed the communal baths in the basement. It was also nice that each time I went to the bath, I had it all to myself. The Ryokan was also by the big market and it was only a few minutes away by foot. Other places like castles and parks were also within a 20 minute walking distance. It was also easy and affordable to take taxi's as well if you didn't feel like walking.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The process of getting picked up at the station was relatively easy and smooth
The room we booked is very lovely and clean
The staff are incredibly friendly and nice
The terrace and hot spring bath is very spacious
The view is so lovely on a clear day
The meals are so traditional and the experience is so wonderful
We only used the in-room onsen so cannot comment on the public ones
Overall it was an amazing experience
Room was really big with two bedrooms with two different sleeping options - futon or raised beds - outside private onsen was superb - public onsen was outstanding
What’s not to like… we had the best room in the ryokan, super spacious room, had a huge bathroom, shower and a private open air onsen.
We had a living room and a bedroom, the space we had was probably bigger than our apartment back home!
Dinner and breakfast was beautifully presented, I literally was so relaxed I lost myself there. Wish I booked it for more than one night!
I love that you provide halal food for both breakfast and dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the spread! Love the small supermarket and yukata provided to us. Love the view of Lake Biwa from our room and the spaciousness of the room. We were delighted that there is a private onsen in the room too.
Check in was right on time and shuttle pickup was smooth- journey took about 5 min from ogotoonsen station. We requested for halal meals and were very pleased with the array of traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. The private bath in the room was great too with a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the tatami and futon prepared carefully and the facial wash, toner and moisturiser included in the toiletries 🥰
Very wide studio room with amenities just enough for travelers. But get your own toiletries- toothbrush and paste, etc.
The room was clean and no bad odors.
The futon and sleeping sheets were clean and comfortable. I had a very good sleep after a long day of hiking.
The building also offers an onsen for guests for free (I didn't try, so can't comment about it).
The staff at the lobby was very accommodating, polite, and helpful. Thank you very much!
We specially arranged the Ryokan experience for mum, we enjoyed the aircon room with bathroom and private onsen, we chose our Yukata and wore it for dinner and breakfast. Dinner was the highlight and it's sumptuous! It's contradictory to me that this nice Ryokan is run by bunch of young people when most of my Ryokan experience was interacting with elder.
