Incredible place I will remember this experience my entire life The host is a very kind monk. Google translate is used for communication and it worked very well Can recommend it for couples and also for solo travelers. A one of a kind experience. I was the only western person, surrounded by Japanese people. It felt very authentic 1 day is perfect for it. I did 2 days, which was nice as I could go hiking next to the temple experience Thanks for everything

宿坊 志摩房 - Temple Hotel Simanobo, hotel in Minobu

Featuring a garden, 宿坊 志摩房 - Temple Hotel Simanobo is located in Minobu in the Yamanashi region, 37 km from Lake Shojiko and 44 km from Lake Saiko.

Historic landmarks full of ancient charm. I feel truly honored and blessed to have the opportunity to personally experience Japan’s temple culture. We were warmly and thoughtfully cared for by the temple’s head priest and his wife. During our stay, the tea set in our room was replaced daily with fresh snacks and fruits, which was incredibly considerate. The meals prepared by the priest’s wife were healthy, delicious, and beautifully presented—we thoroughly enjoyed them. Before our departure, the priest kindly drove us to the station and even gave us some snacks for the journey. This experience left a deep impression on us, and we were extremely satisfied!

Clean, spacious, excellent service with big smiles and open heart, the best food at diner and breakfast, very interesting temple and a nice tour at it. The team made their best to make us comfortable, happy and satisfied even on Japanese standards. Nice simple Onsen.

The rooms are huge and with a wonderful garden view. The dinner was big, food was good, however pricy for what it is. Can book a timeslot to go to onsen privately and attend the morning prayers. Also a lot ot activities are available, but most of them besides kimono fitting, need to book in advance. A lot of parking space.

Wonderful stay at this temple, outside of time. My room was spacious and very beautiful, right next to the prayer room of the temple. The futon was comfortable and the food really good both at dinner and breakfast. The priest welcomed me and walked me to the tomb of the master of Minobu, and also helped me to explain how to participate in the morning prayers at the main hall. I wish I could have stayed there for a few days.

As an European we loved Shimobe Hotel. We visited hotel to feel like Japanese people during vacation, and it was brilliant. We could dip our feet in hot water watching koi fish pool, we were invited to mash rice to make rice cakes during evening animations, and there is beautiful stone outdoor onsen. Everything was far beyond our expectations, and I recommend Shimobe Hotel to everyone seeking calmness, relax and friendly atmosphere in traditional Japanese style

Amazing place with a delicious and outstanding dinner ! We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was extremely friendly ! We could also enjoy the Japanese onsen by reserving a time slot, which was very convenient. If you want to live a comfy and authentic experience, I would strongly advise for Shukubo Kakurinbo :)

wonderful Japanese Ryokan, welcoming, we felt transported to the well-being that this place brings you for the onsen you can enter with tattoos and as a couple, because they put your name in a time slot and you are alone inside.

It's tempting to rate this place higher bcz staff is nice, but that's not everything. The hotel itself is mediocre at best. Food is okay, nothing to write home about. Close to a beautiful Buddhist monastery, and has a nice zen garden. I have stayed at other ryokans for much less $ and much better facilities.

Beautiful place! Huge clean rooms. Comfortable futons. Closness to the teples and ability to take part in morning sutra singing. Staff speaks English. The dinner and the breakfast was tasty, beautifully plated, very interesting as well with a chance to try sth completely new (yuba chips!). Apart from all that - you can learn something about the culture as well, as they prepared a little festival experience for us.
