Lovely rustic ryokan in kurokawa onsen. We stayed for one night and greatly enjoyed the dinner and breakfast there. The staff is friendly and helpful. We used the onsen once while we were there and it was similar to other ones we tried in the area. We got the onsen pass which allowed us to try out three other onsens in the area but actually would not recommend getting it if you’re also staying only for one night as you can just pay for individual onsen visits.
Dinner was at 6 or 6:30pm (you can choose) and breakfast was at 8 or 8:30am. The room was clean and we were provided yukata sets and slippers to roam around.

The room was spacious and the historic atmosphere of the hotel was wonderful. The cave onsen was interesting, but not very hot honestly. Situated along the riverside was dramatic and so picturesque. I was fine sleeping on the futon mattresses on the tatami mats, but my friend complained that she was very uncomfortable. The food was ever-so delicious, but just too much for us old folks. It is a very romantic atmosphere and walking around the village was enjoyable.

Exception staff, very helpful and very friendly; they greeted you in the parking lot and assured you were welcomed. Staff help umbrellas for us as we loaded the car as it was raining at checkout.
Meals were top quality, service was impeccable.
Amenities were excellent. Stayed in a room with a private onsen, but also used the public onsen. Little touches like an irori (traditional hearth) with sake and hot tea after the onsen was relaxing.
Room had two 5/6 mat rooms for futon and a kotatsu.

It's an exceptional ryokan with very calm ambience. The staff is very friendly and helpful, offering a free ride to the bus stop. Onsen facilities are of high quality.
Well located, quiet, serene environment as a ryokan onsen should be. The various onsens were beautiful esp the riverside onsen. The breakfast and dinner was well made too. Futon was comfortable and cosy. We slept well here.
Shinmeikan is a truly amazing ryokan/ onsen. The whole building just oozes authenticity.
Great tatami style rooms overlooking the river, super friendly staff who will help you with all your needs. Great onsen baths, especially the cave bad is spectacular.
Dinner and breakfast are equally high quality and display a variety of Japanese cuisine.
Absolute perfect place if you want to experience traditional Japanese onsen style ryokan.
Oku no yu was great! The staff picked us up from the bus station and dropped us off. The facilities had a public and many private onsens to try. The staff helped us set up our futons and there were yukatas for us in the room. We had breakfast there and it was very yummy. Overall, great experience and would recommend!
We had an unforgettable family stay at a traditional Ryokan in Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who made us feel right at home. The serene atmosphere of the Ryokan, with its beautiful tatami rooms , and peaceful environment, provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Our family enjoyed the delicious kaiseki meals served in Ryokan and loved relaxing in the private onsen.
We highly recommend this Ryokan to families looking for a unique and authentic Japanese experience.
The cave onsen was a unique experience. They have private indoor n outdoor hot springs for booking. The English speaking female non-japanese staff was very friendly and pleasant. The ryokan also sent us to the bus stop when they learnt we are taking the bus to Hakata. Dinner was served around a fire place, giving a warm, fuzzy feel.
Clean, spacious room with comfortable futons, amenities and everything included.
Private onsen hot enough, indoor and outdoor onsen was clean, big and free flowing.
Small ryokan so it is quiet and intimate. Service was attentive.
Amazing ryokan, top-notch service, English speaking staff
Futon beds on Tatami was quite comfortable
Dinner and breakfast was very tasty
In the middle of Kurokawa onsen with everything in walking distance
