Small, quiet, thoughtful amenities. Welcoming and friendly front desk staff escorted us to our room. Woke to beautiful bird sounds in the hallway through the open windows. Bath was clean and hot, had it to myself and appreciated the privacy! Very relaxing. The beds were also very comfortable!

Kose Onsen, hotel in Karuizawa

Housing natural hot-spring baths in tranquil hills of Kose, Kose Onsen is a 15-minute drive from JR Karuizawa Station.

2 onsen options - public indoor & private 露天風呂(outdoor rotenburo). I spent ~2h over multiple visits in the onsens (1 night stay) Water temperature (42 Celsius) was perfect, and left skin feeling great Friendly and polite staff Operates like a historic ryokan (i.e. call reminders for meals, setting up futon, etc) Quiet & good room size. Note: Yes, there's water damage/mildew, but it is an older ryokan. Decent for the price and authentic experience

I loved the quiet mountain location. The meals were buffet-style and quite enjoyable. I loved the open-air onsen and didn't even try the public bath inside of the hotel. The staff was very friendly, and I could get by with no Japanese.

Decent location and the room was pretty nice. I liked that there was a sink and mirror in the room and the futon were comfortable. To use the washer is free but they do charge use of the dryer, though only 300¥.

Yamakikan, hotel in Naganohara

Yamakikan offers a hot spring bath and a hot tub, as well as air-conditioned accommodations in Naganohara, 30 miles from Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park.

Breakfast and dinner were substantial, delicious and nutritious in our own private dining room. The public lounges and resting areas were cozy with help yourself snacks and drinks. Both the indoor and outdoor public onsens were great. The private onsen was a huge bonus though. Love how we were able to pick up our own yukatas from the various options available.

This is our 3rd time to visit Karuizawa. We had a great dinner at fine dining Restaurant, all dishes are really great. Our Moms enjoyed very much for Mothers day. Reception is really helpful, he help reserve table for restaurant, and explained Onsen in detail. It is friendly for elders to use hot spring. Lobby is mordern, with exquisite view. Villa with sloping roof feel ourselves in a forest gallery. We loved and definitely will stay here again.

Fantastic indoor onsen included in the ryokan. The whole atmosphere of the ryokan is fantastic, with a mini aquarium near the stairs, a stunning garden in the hallways leading to the onsen.

We love the wooden smell in the property. Everything inside are very clean and new. The property is very near to Hoshino Hot Spring Onsen, just 3 minutes driving. The description in Booking.com matches the property perfectly. Very easy to communicate with the owner via email.

We spent two nights in Hotel Tsuruya and we had very pleasant time, especially my 4.5 year old boy. The staffs were very warm and helpful. The room and onsen place were tidy and clean. My boy loves futon and the Japanese breakfast especially the rice and miso soup. Although this hotel is not that close to the train station, we had fabulous walking time, stomping on the snows and chasing around before and after dinner.

I'm a regular with booking.com for 10+ years n true onsens hopper and I must expressed this is 1 of those bad ryokans we have ever experienced!! Traditional old we can expect but toilet was dirty n service was zero.. food was bad unlike a real ryokan we were served western food for both nights! They still used kerosene as heater n whole ryokan was smelling of kerosene!! Utterly DISAPPOINTED n for the price we paid....it was really NOT WORTH IT AT ALL..
