We loved the Ryokan for not only was the staff friendly and helpful with us non-Japanese speaking tourists, but they also helped with tech issues we encountered. They also were accommodating with gluten free dietary options. The second we arrived we were greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. We made the decision to upgrade to a junior suite and it was lovely and large after the Toyko small hotel rooms. We were asked to wear kimonos around the facility and enjoyed it along with the traditional Japanese meals which were presented in lovely Japanese style dishes. You will not be disappointed should you stay. We changed our stay to 2 nights but in hindsight we would have done a third. And as a side note we were charged a small onsen or public bath fee. One morning we nudity shy Americans decided to try it and thankfully no one was there so it was amazing and very Zen. It is uber clean and relaxing. Go for it.

Perfect location, overlooking the red bridge.
The staff are very attentive and always smile.
Shuttle pick up from the train station is much much appreciated, especially when we came - it was cold and snowy.

Wonderful property! Service, location, and accommodations were spectacular.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
A beautiful ryokan with the most incredible private onsens in the rooms.
We had the mountain view room, which meant we could open our window from the spring bath and look out over the temple and mountains.
The staff were so kind, they made it a wonderful experience.
Although in a relatively rural setting, the hotel is only a 5 min walk to the train station.
If you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience, then Yatsusankan is the place for you. We particularly enjoyed the food and the onsen. The staff was able to assist us in English whenever we needed them, which positively surprised us in a remote town such as Hida.
A really special experience at this ryokan in Hida Takayama. We stayed in the suite with our own private onsen bath. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. We loved the kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner) and breakfast.
We are from Taiwan, and this is an excellent traditional Japanese inn. I am very satisfied with the service, the guest rooms, and the hot springs. I suggest ordering sake during dinner and trying the famous Hōrai and Shirayumi sake, which are local specialties. Additionally, I recommend making a reservation in advance for a private hot spring bath. It offers a fantastic bathing experience, and it's very relaxing to have a glass of milk after soaking in the hot spring. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful experience.
absolutely fantastic . we liked everything 😀 tatami as a bed isn’t made for us 😀 but that was our Choice to try it. except of this the whole ryokan , the staff the food is just the best . thank you !
This is a typical Ryokan. We had a little onsen in our room. Great views of the shrine, river and mountains. Very friendly staff that really creates a customer experience. Meals are included so you will be served the traditional kaseiki in your own private dining room. The rooms are recently renovated.
Very clean modern Japanese Traditional accommodation, Breakfast and Dinner were superb especially the Hida Beef, Onsen available, Spacious Tatami Matt room with a zen Japanese garden view, half hour from Takayama where there was a festival when we were there,
It was an unforgettable ryokan experience. We ended up staying in both the Mountain View room and the Premium Suite. The PS was huge! It was beautiful, but older. The private onset was wonderful. I think I preferred the MV room though. It was newer and every detail was perfect.
The people were wonderful. The food was incredible. Some things were a little challenging (the tiny firefly squid comes to mind), but I expected that. I met the nicest Japanese mother and daughter in the onsen, an experience I won't forget.
The welcome we received upon arrival was lovely. The ryokan feels very authentic with little hallways going off in all directions! We travelled through Japan for two weeks and this place had my favourite Onsen. To sit outside in the Onsen while it was snowing was magical. The breakfast was of course very Japanese and very abundant. We were never able to eat it all.
