Kamesei Ryokan, hotel in Chikuma

Featuring a Japanese garden and fish pond, Kamesei Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, traditional dining and natural hot spring baths, both outdoors and indoors.

Tyler was a great host! At check in he sat down with us and told us about the history of the area and places to explore/things to do. He was highly communicative and checked in with us throughout our stay. The meals at the ryokan were really lovely and a very fun experience. Tyler also taught us how to wear our yukatas correctly and drove us to the train station upon departure! We really enjoyed the family onsen, which is a private onsen on the property that you can reserve! The beds were comfy and the room was nice and sizeable. Overall we would highly recommend staying here! It was a very nice and relaxing time.

Ogiwarakan, hotel in Chikuma

Located in the famous Togura Kamiyamada hot-spring district, Ogiwarakan features Japanese-style rooms with a flat-screen satellite TV and a fridge.

Very good hotel with excellent staff and good facilities. The family room was spacious, a luxury in Japan, and very clean. The onsen within the hotel was very good, particularly the outdoor onsen located on the last floor of the building, with views to the mountains. We chose the package including dinner and it was very much worth it, with a very large private room just for us.

Chuokan Shimizuya Ryokan, hotel in Chikuma

A 5-minute walk from Zenko-ji Temple, Japanese-style inn Chuokan Shimizuya Ryokan stands with a history of over 160 years. It features a public bath, massages and free Wi-Fi.

Our room, the shared toilets, and shared baths were exceptionally clean. Our hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful and made us feel like family - despite a language barrier (we know very little Japanese). The location was perfect for exploring Nagano and the surrounding areas and was close to restaurants and shopping. The ryokan experience was a really great part of our family's trip to Japan.

This route inn is situated in an area with traditional Japanese spas, and I was pleasantly surprised to smell Sulfur in the Onsen(public bath), something that you don't experience at other route inn hotels. The hotel has 3 separate parking lots nearby, and car users do not need to worry about parking their cars. Breakfast was good and my room was quiet.

Fantastic Japanese half board menu in authentic Ryokan. We were spoilt with the attentive service and extent of traditional Japanese dishes provided by the hotel. Every meal felt like a feast.

Traditional Ryokan with good location. Have been to this place two times already, 24h Onsen access, spacious rooms, and I really recommend the japanese breakfast & Kaiseki style Dinner! Tyler is a great and very helpful host. See you next time :)

I loved the remote location and it offered exactly what I was looking for: peace and great surroundings! The owner is kind and I felt very at home! The town nearby has many great onsens.

Was an awesome stay! The Onsen bath was incredible, the room spacious and clean with everything I required, even plugs/cords for phone charging. Breakfast was amazing with an array of choices. They also have a small adjacent room where you can get free coffee and work on your computer. The only complaint was the location, but then I knew that before I went so not an issue. Easy access by car from Ueda station at a 30 minute drive or so. Oh an finally, the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Thanks very much!

Lovely hosts, very friendly - spoke great English. We were in futon in a tatami room, it was cozy but we loved it. The hosts are kind of local celebrities and everyone knows them, so it was a lot of fun staying there. The hosts provided a space heater and there was a room heater as well, so we were well taken care of. The property is very clean as well.

Amazing dinner and breakfast. We had a private room for eating. The room was also very comfortable. We had everything we needed there, including hygiene products and clothes (yukata, socks). There was an indoor and exterior onsen, which were very clean and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and we were offered a ride to Togura Station after our stay. It is a bit expensive but worth it, I would like to return.

Loved that this beautiful inn was outside the city. Tyler picked/dropped us from Togura train station so it was convenient. It was nice to be able to recharge and relax here. The onsens were great. Only regret is we didn’t stay longer to explore more of the town. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
