Ogiwarakan, hotel in Chikuma

Located in the famous Togura Kamiyamada hot-spring district, Ogiwarakan features Japanese-style rooms with a flat-screen satellite TV and a fridge.

Amazing dinner and breakfast. We had a private room for eating. The room was also very comfortable. We had everything we needed there, including hygiene products and clothes (yukata, socks). There was an indoor and exterior onsen, which were very clean and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and we were offered a ride to Togura Station after our stay. It is a bit expensive but worth it, I would like to return.

Bessho Onsen Midoriya, hotel in Chikuma

Bessho Onsen Midoriya features mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Ueda, 30 km from Honmachi Machiyakan.

Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times. Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts. I will be back!

This route inn is situated in an area with traditional Japanese spas, and I was pleasantly surprised to smell Sulfur in the Onsen(public bath), something that you don't experience at other route inn hotels. The hotel has 3 separate parking lots nearby, and car users do not need to worry about parking their cars. Breakfast was good and my room was quiet.

I loved the remote location and it offered exactly what I was looking for: peace and great surroundings! The owner is kind and I felt very at home! The town nearby has many great onsens.

Was an awesome stay! The Onsen bath was incredible, the room spacious and clean with everything I required, even plugs/cords for phone charging. Breakfast was amazing with an array of choices. They also have a small adjacent room where you can get free coffee and work on your computer. The only complaint was the location, but then I knew that before I went so not an issue. Easy access by car from Ueda station at a 30 minute drive or so. Oh an finally, the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Thanks very much!

Lovely hosts, very friendly - spoke great English. We were in futon in a tatami room, it was cozy but we loved it. The hosts are kind of local celebrities and everyone knows them, so it was a lot of fun staying there. The hosts provided a space heater and there was a room heater as well, so we were well taken care of. The property is very clean as well.

It is a quirky old museum-like Ryokan. There are beautiful gardens in courtyards.

Loved that this beautiful inn was outside the city. Tyler picked/dropped us from Togura train station so it was convenient. It was nice to be able to recharge and relax here. The onsens were great. Only regret is we didn’t stay longer to explore more of the town. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
