This was a complete experience. I don’t know if anything will ever top how magical the location, people, or amenities was. I would absolutely come back here.

Akan No Mori Tsuruga Resort Hanayuuka, hotel in Akankohan

Located by the banks of peaceful Akan Lake, Tsuruga Resort features free WiFi, natural hot springs, a spa and a library. Parking is offered at a charge.

When we first arrived we were assigned to a older more traditional room. After discovering a minor issue in the bathroom, the front desk manager quickly put us in an updated room that suited us better. The location was perfect! I had no idea when booking this hotel that the hiking and ferry were right in back of this hotel! The breakfast and dinners were excellent and exceeded our expectations. I have food allergies and the staff were so kind to walk me around all the food options to share what was safe for me to eat. Also, each entre had a card with all the food categories checked off.

Overall stay was excellent. Loved the river views, onsen and meals. A great spot for a one night stay between Lake Toya & Shiretoko. Nice to have wild deer grazing outside in evening and even spotted a fox by the river.

The hotel is right at the lake with a Showa era flair to it. The tatami room with the lake view was comfortable and the onsen bath was a welcome relaxation after my hike. The staff was very friendly.

Fantastic ryokan overlooking the lake. We had a huge room with a private onsen and fabulous floor to ceiling lake views from the windows. (It is worth paying extra for the lake view.) The room was spotless and so well equipped, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Dinner was exceptional and served in a private dining room. It was an amazing experience. The ryokan was very close to the bus station, so it was easy to reach without a car. We used the bus from Kitami and the local bus to Kushiro Station.

One of the most unique experiences I've had - an exceptional stay, starting from the location next to Lake Akan, the tatami floor in the room and the wagashi offered, the rich and varied breakfast and dinner, the marvellous onsen and the lovely staff. The hotel is also decorated with magnificent Ainu culture symbols.

Best place in Hokkaido! Breakfast and Buffet Dinner included: great choices of Japanese, Chinese and Western food. Fresh food and high level choices. Lakeside view during meals. Great Onsen, friendly staff, shuttle to parking area fast and upon request. Big rooms, nice tatami styles, 5 people come for daily room cleaning at once and job is done so quickly, get as much drinking water as you need, afternoon can eat free Hokkaido potatoes, nice art exhibition area from woodwork, close to Ainu village, very friendly tour desk.
