Location is excellent..... well worth 2 nights.....with a day down at Buffels River - with the delightful surprise of flamingos being present there, ramble along the Atlantic shore and a drink with Rocky at the Angling Club! Everything you can imagine available at the Cottage and the trust of the owner is much appreciated. Rowena and neighbour Wilfred welcomed us warmly. Morning view down to the sea, as the mists clear, is spectacular! Springbok, Steenbok and Ostrich are among the wildlife you begin to see here, along with the variety and abundance of bird activity at the extraordinary Buffels Riverhead!

One wouldn't expect a hotel of such high standards in a small mining town like Okiep. The rooms were clean, warm and properly furnished for overnight guests who are just passing through, or for those wanting to stay a few nights in order to explore the region with its beautiful flowers. Business travelers are also well advised to use their facilities, which are quite good. The food was exceptional, well prepared and tasty. A bonus was that the chef knew exactly what to do when we informed him that my wife is gluten and lactose intolerant (coeliac disease). She could eat everything that was prepared for her and did not have any problems at all. I would really recommend a stay, also because of the historical setting of the hotel and the information it provides on the history of the town. Well done!

Great place to stay. Safe environment.

Located just 5 km from the Vioolsdrift Border Control to Namibia, Frontier River Resort offers a unique escape overlooking the Orange River in South Africa. The grounds and luxury tents were in a nice setting with a lot of seasonal planting upgrades, like their own orange grove, that I would love to return to see in the future. Because the facility is on a hillside, owners were concerned with my walking with a crutch but I managed well. Really enjoyed falling asleep with the tent flaps open so I could look at stars, wake to first sun light and bird song. Everything from bedding to towels and toiletries made me feel like I was in a luxury spa. I really enjoyed the owners young son who was concerned about compression wraps on my legs. He sat me in a chair in front of the tent, went and got my book and kept me entertained until my husband came back from his walk. Such a big heart, full of compassion, in such a small body.
