They get angry and sometimes even aggresive if you do not pay or according to them do not pay enough. Anyway: never make any picture of children here and pay them, because their parents keep them away from school just for that. Go for good food and service and value for money to Salas on the plaza. Good coffee and apple pie at the coffee bar in hotel Jazmines (Amazonas street). Better ignore the older bare-footed lady who always begs for money at the plaza: whatever you`ll give she will always come back next day bare-footed for succesful begging....
We really enjoyed Cajamarca. The old city streets remind me of Cusco. There are some lovely churches and museums. We loved the Cumbemayo tour ( It is a chance to be in nature). Loved the Banos del Inca thermal springs (entrance is tricky to find so ask). We went for a lovely walk from Banos del Inca to Llanarco village. We caught a bus from Cajamarca leaving at 7am (virgen del Carmen) to Chachapoyas and the scenery was fantastic.
Cajamarca is a more laid back than the larger commercial cities and not as touristy as the prime tourist destinations. Very friendly place. Easy to get around by taxi or combi.
Cajamarca was beautiful and very safe for tourists. The people are friendly and helpful - even if you don’t speak Spanish.
Hot shower always, and very good internet, friendly staff, good breakfast with some variation every day, good location but bear in mind it's about 15-20 minutes by walk to the centre - Plaza de Armas. They gave me a thermometer when I was feeling sick and did housekeeping every day!!! The first time in Peru there was an actual window in the room looking outside. Very good value for money. I also liked Cajamarca so much that I stayed for more days and they happily extended my stay (and kept the same price)

We stayed five nights in Casa Mirita. Casa Mirita is located a bit outside of the center in a quiet street, Cajamarca center Is reached very easily with mototaxi. The room in Casa Mirita is basic, the personal atmosphere, provided by Mirita and Vicky, is just fantastic. The breakfast is freshly prepared every day and very good. We can recommend Casa Mirita to everybody who is interested staying in a typical Peruvian home and in experiencing Peruvian hospitality.

Excellent staff - rooms were clean and shower pressure was perfect. Very close to main square and landmarks. WiFi was good overall. Breakfast mas more than you can ask at any restaurant, and it came included in the room price. Staff was very kind to let me use their office meeting room for work video conference. Excellent transportation to the airport. Loved the place, would highly recommend.

The most comfortable bed and pillows I had on my travel. I have to bring my own pillow but didn't have to unpack it. Super comfy beds+ good & quiet aircon. The location is great, the garage is two blocks away, but no issue. A bit of noise from the casino next door, but only annoying on Saturdays. Otherwise, rather quiet for the location. The breakfast is good and the coffee great. The café is open in the evening and as I can't have coffee in the evening I got delicious local hot chocolate. I felt well looked after. Needed a mechanic for my motorbike and the owner was driving around town with me to find the right spot. Super helpful. Very nice family and friendly staff! Will definitely return! Also the rooms have a nice design, not the same basic style like most of the other hotels.
