Be sure to visit the weaving museum in the Barrio Santa Ana. The museum is run by Alexander Llacctahuaman (I think!), who also has a shop that you can visit after. His work was the best we saw in the central highlands. If the museum is closed just look pathetic and eventually someone will find him for you…he does a little tour. It was really great. His prices are very reasonable so don't be afraid to ask. Quinua and the Wari ruins are also great visits. We went on our own with collectivos….no need to pay a tour company. Be sure to walk up the road from the square in Quinua. The best work is up the hill. Start early as rides back are harder to find in the afternoon. Also eat at Via Via in Ayacucho! We went 3x I think.
Ayacucho was very quaint with very friendly people. I was there to visit a child I sponsor thru World Vision. I did visit some historical sites & ruins close to Ayacucho. This is a good place to buy Alpaca goods as well as other crafts. I could have stayed longer to see more.
Ayacucho is a charming little town with very kind people, and there is plenty to see and do. We saw four processions just within the two days we spent there. Good tours are available and the food is delicious everywhere. We recommend the humble but very important Museo de las Memorias. You will also greatly enjoy just sitting in the main square and watching the people go by. Try to speak as much Spanish as possible while you are there. Most Ayacuchanos speak Spanish and Quechua, but not English.
Ayacucho is an old town. It has had a tough history from being the site of independence battle from Spain to the birthplace of the terrorist movement, the Shining Path, the city is trying to get better city wide infrastructure. This leads to a kind of messy, chaotic experience within the city itself. This is similar in many Peruvian towns. Lots of churches from the 1600’s. Holy Week is the big deal for Ayacucho. The processions are impressive but because of outside visitors coming as an excuse to party for 4 days straight, I don’t like how that takes away from the spirituality of the ceremonies.
Ayacucho
The description and photos matched my expectations. Very friendly staff, location is away from the business of the plaza de armas, and transportation is good via taxi or bus. If you need wheelchair access or no-steps room, be sure to contact them directly if possible to make it happen. Excellent hotel, I would highly recommend. The city of Ayacucho and its people have much to offer, and teach, to any visitor: clean, fun, respectful, and hospitable. Much to see and do there, the zoo, trips to Quinua, Wari, Pikimachay, etc.
Ayacucho
It was probably the best Hotel we had in Peru, from the extremely Frindly Stuff (the owner and his family) to the exelent service we resived. We had the feeling of a 5* Hotel (European standard) we woud recommend it to ever person who is looking for a stay in Ayacucho. Thanks for the great service that when beyond ouwer wildest dreams. We hope we will meet again. Best regards Philipp and George
Ayacucho
Acceptable value per money. The solo room is well furnished, with clean bathrooms although fair small to be honest but very convenient. The breakfast was nice too, with coffee, juoce and nice typical Ayacucho bread 😋. The service staff are also kind and friendly, always eager to help you.
A very new hotel in the centre of Ayacucho. A short walk from the main square and historic district. Friendly and helpful staff, well-appointed room with modern private bathroom. Large selection of options for breakfast. Secure parking garage.
Location was all right, close to main square
The lady (the owner?) was very kind and friendly! She helped me to pick up a taxi for going to the airport. it really helped me a lot!! I could use the kitchen to make dishes and coffee.
