I can not think of a single thing that I could complain about. I should give a special mention to Angel, the very helpful receptionist during my stay. She is perfectly named and the hotel should treasure her.

Set in a restored private mansion, East Indies Mansion is located in the heart of UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town. very nicely designed rooms with very friendly staff, providing us lots of tips and recommendations on where to go and visit. They are very helpful and can reach out to them easily via whatsapp for questions. they provide little local snacks each night for us to try. one thing i didn't read properly is that there is no TV in the room, but it was fine. we were watching on ipads and just chill in the room

But please note the area around it is a bit rundown and only starting to be restored - so if you are looking for modernity this is not your place. However, you are short walk away from historic old town. So for us it was perfect. The actual rooms are spacious, equipped with modern TV with Netflix & coffee maker. Absolute gem is the staff - attentive and kind and very helpful in suggestions of what to visit and where to eat in the neighbourhood. Thanks for all your help :) Breakfast is great - they offer western options and also possibility to try Chinese breakfast (different every day - you get info what is it when you sign for it day before). Pool is small, but after exploring Georgetown very good for refreshing.

You just can't go wrong with the food! Get the map of local dishes and make sure you taste everything! I never thought that I could go to a place just for the food, but Penang was a huge surprise. Like nothing else that I have ever visited. The old town is very nice. easy to get around and safe. Don't miss this when in Malaysia!
