Beautiful, fantastic, so worth to visit!! Restaurant La Tequila EXCELLENT. Visit to Tequila is best to find a goud tour even if you pay a little more (do not take the one promoted at the tourism kiosk). Make sure to have enough time to visit the town of Tequila. Visit to Tlaquepaque is fantastic. Great place to get souvenirs. A must visit is sculptor Rodo Padilla's showroom and you can't leave empty handed.... Very representative of Jalisco. Restaurant El Patio was Great. A fantastic trip full of fun memories.
It's a beautiful and important colonial city. Woven around the major buildings of church and state is a series of plazas with fountains and places to sit and rest/reflect. Unless for some reason you are up and out very early in the morning, when the winter nights get down in the single digits C, it has a rather perfect climate. It does have several cultural institutions, notably the Orquesta Filarmonía de Jalisco, that produce first-rate performances.
This is a huge city. It competes with Monterrey for the second biggest of Mexico. In this province Jalisco the mariachi music and the tequila liquor were invented. The center and various city districts have all their own character. Take the city tours of all city districts. No shortage of good restaurants, bars, night life, museums, colonial architecture, markets, etc, etc. Basic popular good Mexican food is found in the markets. Very colorful! Very enjoyable climate in "wintertime". Try to learn (at least some) Spanish. It makes the communication experience with the in general very friendly people way more profound. Puerto Vallarta at the tropical pacific ocean is a 4 hour bus trip away. Vallarta Plus has wifi, free lunch box and restrooms on board. Best to book/ pay online and board the bus at the Zapopan bus station in Guadalajara. Taxis are inexpensive. Uber drivers are way more friendly than the others. Have fun!
I am a resident of Jalisco. The hotel is across the street from one of the most gorgeous theaters in the world....while also smack dab in the heart of everything in the city. This is a world class city to visit. There is art, museums of all sorts, wonderful shopping, the Libertad Market is the greatest market in all of Mexico; and there are superb restaurants, and two famous areas--Tlaquepaque and Tonala-- where Shopping becomes an art-form!. And just 45 minutes to the South you have the incredible Lake Chapala and the art village of Ajijic! This is also an amazing area for eco-travelers. There's even a live volcano you can visit in Colima...about 2.5 hours away. This palce is a veritable treasure trove!
We went on a tour with Paco-- wonderfully entertaining guide!! Location of hotel was perfect for celebration of 475th anniversary of the city. Totally enjoyed the Jalisco Philharmonica & Ballet!! Loved the Orozco Murals & Las Cabanas Museo. Everything in walking distance. We took local bus to Tonala-- wild-- on the edge shopping area!! We felt very safe in this city!!
Interesting history, but a dusty little dump. All the restaurants but one closed before dinner time. Listed attractions like Hacienda Jalisco were closed. Fun drive up.
I have to say that Guadalajara itself did not really meet my expectations, it was dusty, dirty and very smelly with shady people all over. However, I very much enjoyed the day trips to Tequila as well as to Tlaquepaque. Next time I would prefer staying in Tequila or another Pueblo Mágico in Jalisco instead of Guadalajara itself.
We enjoyed walking around old town and listened to a lovely concert in the wrought iron gazebo in Plaza De Armas on Satuday afternoon. On Sunday we went to a performance of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco at Teatro Degollado--a wonderful experience! What a grand theatre. We also suggest taking advantage of 2x1 margheritas at the historic Hotel Frances. Sitting in the lobby is like stepping back in time. And don't forget to have a ahgodadas sandwich in the Mercado Libertad. Many great experiences to remember including the lovely smiling faces of the people of Guadalajara.
This area of Chapala, San Antionio T., and Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, is flooded with North Americans coming in this "high season." However, more and more are looking to buy or rent, so, those who have been here longer than a few years, see all this area growing exponentially. It is still rustic enough, but there is a lot of construction going on.
The room, the bathroom and the entire room was super clean, the staff very helpful and ready to attend your requests, I was on the room #104 from Nov 7 to Nov 11, and whoever was in charge of the maintenance and keeping up with the supplies of any room at that level deserve my felicitations and hoping their supervisor pass my gratitude to the hard workers of the Hotel Gina in San Juan de los lagos Jalisco..
Location was good, but hotel doesn't have excess to the private beach at the ocean, like many other hotels. We were staying in Puerto Vallarta for the last 15 years: We stayed at Vamar, Krystal, Sol Melia, Bonaventure Mexican Charm, Rio Pacifico, Jalisco. In many hotels we stayed 2-3 times, because we like it.
The King Beds, and cleanliness
Large property with both marina and beach experience. We had a problem with our room and staff expressed concern and resolved the issue immediately. The food was good. Grounds are beautiful. The rooms are comfortable.
Good location, the food was delicious.
The staff The food And the cleaning
The marriage of 1694 Hacienda with simple elegant modern amenities in a great natural setting, as well as the attention to details which made this stay memorable. We will be back.
