During our two and a half week trip through Sri Lanka, the Lion Gate Hotel was the best accommodation we stayed in. Bernard gave us a very warm welcome and provided us with a wonderful stay in an oasis of well-being. During our trip, the search for small, authentic and nice accommodation was unfortunately somewhat difficult. The Lion Gate Hotel ultimately met all our expectations and not only did we have a great starting point for our activities around Sigiriya but also a place where we really enjoyed going to simply relax. The rooms are very nice, the facilities are new and modern. The service should be emphasized. Any type of requests were fulfilled immediately. I can highly recommend staying at Lion Gate Hotel.

We booked to stay one night on our way to Trincomalee. The hotel was located on our way. Shriron the manager was very helpful. The room is very clean and spacious. Bed was very comfortable and the bed linen was good quality. Shriron could not do enough to make our stay fabulous. Despite being near the road it was very quiet and peaceful. They do aruruvedic treatments, which we didn't have time to do. But I would love to stay longer next time and experience the full package. We Will be back.

On a month long trip to Sri Lanka, filled with beautiful places and accommodations - the Cottage holds a special place in my heart. We spent two amazing days here, and later in our trip we decided to go back for 5 more. From the kindness of the staff, the excellent hospitality, the pool that was somehow always the right temperature, the location in nature and all of the life that surrounds it - we had a perfect stay. The gentleman that cares for the plants, pool and grounds works all day making sure the place looks great and the pool is always clean. The chef makes great food, and the Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. The location is a short bike ride from town, or if you have your own tuktuk as we did it’s about a 5 minute ride. It’s in the midst of the jungle. In our days there we had encounters with every type of bird in Sri Lanka. Monkeys of all varieties. Even Elephants. The near by lake, which you will drive by the signed path to, is a must at sunrise. Walking further down the road into the farmers fields (stay on the road, don’t walk on their crops) will yield incredible sunsets with peacocks calling in the background and a clear view of lions rock. Bungalows are simple, clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. We will most certainly return here in the future and highly recommend it to others. There is more to see in Sigiriya than you think, and a couple of days at the cottage is a great base to explore and relax. Mama, the local dog running around is very sweet. If you’re a dog loving traveler as I am - take care of her and show her some love. She’ll keep the monkeys off your tuktuk 😉

We got perfect tips and the even organized transportation to just about everywhere we wanted to got - even at 5 a.m. in the morning. They went far beyond giving us even a lift by themselves. They got us an extremely good deal for a safari - that started with one day notice. The best part however was, that they were able to organize train tickets - for the famous Newari-Ellia to Ella part. Without their help we would have missed that higlight. THANKS A LOT AGAIN!!! Oh, an the location itself is just beautiful. You do not expect that when you walk up the raw concrete stairs, but the view and the feeling for breakfast is just breathtaking.

Sura and the staff are very friendly, helpful and professional.
