This is a super unique, super serene place that was worth a two night splurge for us. Our bungalow was very clean, very modern and very comfortable, and even the deck outside felt very private. You can swim right from your door, and the quiet setting and views were magical! We really enjoyed the breakfast - the sticky rice treats were a nice surprise - and the staff was friendly and helpful. Free bikes were also a great perk, we took them out for a day of cave exploration!

You can't miss the Viewpoint. Hopping on a boat or kayak is a really good way of exploring surrounding villages. There are many tour companies but it's best to go with a local guide (i.e. someone from Nong Khiaw or surrounding villages rather than Luang Prabang or outside of Laos), as you'll be able to get to know local families much better. Nongmany restaurant on the east side of the bridge in Nong Khiaw is very slow (granted we were there in the low season), but it has absolutely amazing food and a huge selection, and the staff are very nice.
Booked beforehand for two days but ended up staying two more. The place is relaxed and magical! There's not a lot to do but if you enjoy the riverside scenery and a slower pace you will love Nong Khiaw. A motorbike is handy to explore the nearby caves and you have to do the 1,5h hike to the viewpoint - it's worthy. Really recommended: have a meal at Coco's. We went once and didn't even bother checking for other options - you won't regret it!
Nong khiaw was just so breathtaking, the sunset viewpoint was amazing to hike, and the 100 waterfalls trek was really fun! Highly recommended!
If you are travelling to Nong Khiaw from Luang Prabang it will seem quiet and quaint. But if you are arriving from up river (from Muang Ngoi) it will seem a bit more touristy. Check out JungleFly zip lining. It's amazing and fantastic experience!!
Make sure you go to the Viewpoint! Such an amazing view above the clouds early in the morning and then they clear to reveal amazing views over Nong Khiaw and along the Nam Ou. One of my favourite memories from Laos!
Nong Khiaw is a low key town. There is no air conditioning, so you have to get used to the heat. We dd a 2 day jungle trek to a few villages and stayed overnight in 1. This was the highlight of our time there. Very challenging two days but such an incredible experience.
Nong Khiaw is really tiny, not much to do but a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Perfectly located in Nong Khiaw by the bridge. The restaurant has fantastic authentic laos food which was some of the best we had on our trip. The staff are friendly and helpful too and for the price , the view from the rooms is great. You may have to deal with some wildlife in the rooms due to the nature of Nong Khiaw itself, but the beds have great mosquito nets aswell. However if we were to return to NK, we would stay here again.

We were told by a Laos travel agent we met on the Mekong this was the best place in Nong Khiaw and it didn’t disappoint. The backdrop over the river is sensational, the staff were very willing to please and the food was very nice. For any comment that says it was a 15 minute walk into town well the plentiful bikes turn that into a 3 minute journey.

I would highly recommend the Nam ou River Lodge if you stay in Nong Khiaw. The hotel is charming with a view on the river. The room is clean and comfortable. The owners are keen to help with sympathy. We also booked a 3 days trek with the partner agency and absolutely loved the experience. They are very professional.

It was a beautiful view from my room, just next to the river and next to boat-landing. If you went back out of hotel, you will be in the middle of town and mainstreet. The ovner is a lovely, always smiling and very helpful woman. I cannot think of a better place to stay in Nong khiaw. Go for it, you will never regret

Very relaxed stay. Super nice staff. Coffee for free and all is very clean. You can breakfast on the other side sister hostel, but there are plenty more options in Nong Khiaw. It was quite a night, clean and the AC worked well. 15min to bus station and close to everything else.

Most amazing hostel ever! If you’re coming to Nong Khiaw you absolutely must stay here. The treks you can go on through the hostel are incredible and the hostel itself is on a beautiful piece of land in the hills.
