While Nairobi has everything a city can offer, that very much includes the worst of consumerism and poverty at the same time. As a visitor, you may end up taking taxis between one fancy mall and another to avoid all the unknown people who may or may not be dangerous to you - at least that's what my friends in town do. Also, the distances are huge, and getting around without a car is bound to take hours - the matatu (bus) system is well working if you're used to it, but is very slow.
Nairobi är för oss mest en transferstad för att sedan ta oss vidare i ett intressant och spännande Kenya med trevliga människor och ett trevligt bemötande!
Eftersom vi var här i ett hjälpprojekt så visste vi en hel del av vad som kunde vänta oss. Under fem dagar har vi varit runt i flera av Nairobis kåkstäder. Trots i många fall hemska förhållanden såg vi nästan enbart glada ansikten. Utöver besök som hade samband med hjälpprojektet har vi inte haft tid eller möjlighet att göra något med ett undantag, som vi varmt rekommenderar. Under en timma (är enbart öppet så) besökte vi Baby Elephant Orphanage
Nairobi är en storstad med allt från slum till moderna shopping center och High tech företag. Den erbjuder det mesta man vill uppleva i en storstad. Dock är den kaotiska trafiksituationen en besvärande faktor som styrande politiker borde ta på mycket större alvar då den stjäl mycket av både invånarnas och besökares tid.
I liked Nairobi, but there are so many cars everywhere. I chose to walk somtimes, but walking close to the main roads the air is not so nice. I was there to work, but I am sure there are many interesting things to do.
Nairobi National Park is worth the fee! The city isn't all safe for tourist strolling, a car with driver is recommended. For me as a runner there's not many safe options. One of them is Windsor Golf Hotel that offers shaded and hilly ronds of 2.5, 3.5 and 5 km for a fee of KES 500 in the Pro Shop.
