Located 1.1 miles from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Onyado Nono Matsue Natural Hot Spring offers 4-star accommodations in Matsue and features a spa & wellness center. It is a very new hotel. Located just 13-15 min walk from the train station, it was easy to reach even with suitcases. We were given a room in Japanese style but with Western beds. Note that sink is located in the room lobby, while toilet and shower are behind the door. Heated toilet seat was a great feature in winter. Onsens on the roof are to die for. 1 indoors, 1 big outdoors and 2 more big tubs with 39'c and 42'c water. Breakfast is a great value for money. Overall this stay was amazing and I really really want to come back again.

This is a very new hotel across the street from Matsue Station but to get there you go through an underpass. The spotlessly clean room was small but perfectly fine for a single person and there were a lot of electrical outlets. Although my window faced Matsue Station, it was very quiet. I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet which had quite a variety of food and drinks. The comfortable well lit eating area had several small tables and a long hightop table with stools. The public bath was a real nice addition.

The Centurion Hotel & Spa Classic Izumo is located in Izumo, 3.8 miles from Hamayama Park and 3.8 miles from Masakigaoka Park. The rooms were spacious for myself and my adult son and young daughter. I loved that they provided pajamas - the staff were super friendly (although one of the staff members seemed to be irritated with me when I was trying to speak to him, but he later did apologize - the language barrier was perhaps frustrating for me to relay to him my proper concern and this must have frustrated him as he took my questioning as impatience on my part - he told me to "Just Wait!" in a very annoyed tone with me - I'm okay though as I realize I am not used to their ways and perhaps it is considered very rude to try to speak up when I think they are not hearing me properly. In any case, overall, the other staff members were perfect and extremely helpful to me. I would definitely stay here again!

The presence of the female staff at the front desk was wonderful and I am very grateful. The other staff members were also taken over and everyone was kind. Featuring 4-star accommodations, Oyado Tsukiyo no Usagi is located in Izumo, 1.6 miles from Inasa Beach and a 5-minute walk from Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo. The staff service was exceptional. This is definitely our favourite Ryokan. The bathing facilities are great, especially after long walks! Next time we are back in Izumo we will definitely book this hotel. Food is really good, for drinkers it's worth going for the unlimited deal.

Matsue
The owner of the guesthouse, Mr. Namba, is very friendly. He knows a lot about Shimane, where to go, best way to get there, how much it costs as well as how long it will take. His English is also very good. He is easy to communicate with. The rooms are spacious and open. Although you in a city, it feels like a countryside villa. There is a small Japanese style garden in the back. The location is convenient. It's close to many restaurants. However, I would advise making reservations at the restaurants.
I visited several places in Shimane and Tottori Prefectures and the Dormi Inn is perfectly located for this purpose. The hotel is located directly at the train station exit, there are lots of restaurants in the vicinity. The room was quite spacious because I had a double room for single use. The thermal spa on the top floor is superb, you can relax outside in 42°C hotspring water. You can program the TV to let you fall asleep listening to three different kinds of relaxation music, very nice.
The staff was excellent and very helpful to a solo foreigner with nearly zero Japanese. Kind and helpful during my entire stay! Can walk to many sites. Station is nearby for busses, trains and taxis! The room was very comfortable and clean. I recommend this hotel if you are in the Shimane area!
Izumo
Very convenient to Ichibata Line train station as well as being walking distance to Izumo Taisha shrine, Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo, and Inasa beach. Large rooms, comfortable beds, accommodating and helpful staff. Local family run small business, ie not a hotel chain.
I only stayed 2 nights at Matsue. I liked the hotel so much that I wish I could stay longer. It is really close to the station and it is convenient to visit the Shimane Art Museum and the Apache Museum (by train).
Close proximity to JR train and bus station. Although not much parking at the hotel they have an arrangement with a multi storey park very close by. All facilities good. Shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Staff very courteous and helpful.
The views were incredible. The spa was really good for my battered body.
The family is welcoming and discreet. The room was bigger than expected, the meal and breakfast was delicious. Tsuwano ifself is a great place, this minshuku made my stay wonderful.

Top to bottom, I’m traveling 16 days, so far best ever. Old style Japanese Life music to so many choice , fancy dinner, great Onsen to its view. But one day to make other day to female , you can have even you stay a day, either morning or night It worth it every penny. Stay there two days. I did one but already scheduled other town, if you do , please try two days
