Hotel in Beppu
Featuring 3-star accommodations, Beppu Hatto Onyado Nono Beppu is located in Beppu, 13 miles from Oita Bank Dome and a 6-minute walk from Beppu Station. This modern ryokan style hotel exceeded our expectations and I wish we stayed here for more than one night! The private baths were a highlight of the experience and were very popular with all guests. You can't reserve them, so you have to wait patiently near the chairs next to the bath you want to try. In our experience most people didn't bathe for longer than 20–30 minutes, so the wait was never too long. Make sure you know which bath you want before you get there. Outside the baths are some massage chairs and a nice lounge with a beautiful view of the city. Enjoy a free ice cream while you cool down after bath time. They also give a free bowl of noodles around 9pm to all hotel guests, which was a pleasant surprise and a night treat.

Hotel in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka
Open from September 2019, only 492 feet from JR Hakata Train Station, Miyako Hotel Hakata offers stylish rooms with a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. Unlike the Miyako in Kyoto, this 208-room property is not associated with Westin/Marriott. The hotel is relatively new, around four years old when writing this. We picked the Miyako Hotel Hakata for its excellent location right adjacent to the Hakata train station. The reception is on the third floor. The staff is friendly and professional, and the rooms are excellent - very spacious and bright. Fully equipped with any amenities you might need and with fantastic beds and pillows. The lights, curtains and drapes are controlled by a tablet on a bedside table. The hotel features a lovely outdoor pool on the top floor amd also has a good restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We tried the ten course dinner and it was very good. When in Fukuoka we will pick the Miyako again. One of the top hotels we have stayed at during our many hotel nights in Japan. I didn't have time to travel around Fukuoka although I was there about two years ago I only managed to spend an afternoon in Nagasaki City. I would love to travel to more places in Kyushu and go back to Yufuyin. Will surely consider visiting Fukuoka again.
We weren't really there long enough to pass judgement properly, the stop being intended simply to provide some rest after long flights and to collect our Japan Rail passes from Hakata station. The central area seemed a little bland, but I understand that areas towards the sea are slightly more picturesque. The railway station served its purpose for us however, even if the appropriate booking counter was tricky to find (enter by the taxi rank, walk almost to the end of the corridor in front of you and the JR desk is towards the left hand side of the ticket office on the right). We also had a very pleasant lunch at Yoshizuka Unagiya, A restaurant specialising in eel. It might have been tricky to find, so we found it useful to arrive by taxi, particularly given our limited time in the city. It is a little unassuming from the outside, but climb the stairs and put your name in the waiting list, and the experience will be well worth it. If I returned to Japan I think I would allow slightly longer in the city, particularly given its reputation for some of the best food on Kyushu, but it served its purpose well for us.
It's suitable for long/short stays if you want to explore Kyushu island and Honshu Island. There are plenty of attractions in Khushu island depend on what period of the year. It's good to get free entry to several places.
Standard, not-Tokyo major Japanese city featuring many of the famous restaurant and shop chains from the capital in addition to its own unique and homegrown restaurants and shops. Not really a luxury destination but definitely an excellent base for day trips around Kyushu, with a simple subway system and high speed trains for farther places as well.
Fukuoka and Kyushu regions are less urban areas with nature, onsen spa and good seafood. This also means the train networks are less extensive than Tokyo. Renting a car will let you see a lot more of Fukuoka and it's neighboring prefectures.
We are traveling in the whole Kyushu. Fukuoka has very good food but there are more unique places and landscapes to see outside of the city. After all, Fukuoka is just another Japanese city to me.
We were lucky that we visited during what appeared to be sale season (end of July to first week of August). We got a lot of Japanese brands on sale (some clothes were at 70%off, plus another 20% discount, plus around 8% tax refund for tourists). The highlight for us was Dazaifu, particularly the Kyushu National Museum, which then had the Lascaux cave paintings exhibit.
Kitakyushu is first and foremost an industrial city, and I would not recommend it for tourism, at least not if that’s the main purpose of one’s trip. If one really wanted to do some tourism in Kitakyushu, I’d recommend taking several factory tours available in the city to get a closer look at the industry. Also, the food in the city is quite good and very cheap compared to elsewhere in Japan, so enjoying some Japanese cousine at a restaurant in the evening is a good way to spend your time and money while there.
As the site of the second atomic bombing of a city Nagasaki is an historic place to visit. But there is much more to the city than a history of its destruction. Nagasaki was for two centuries Japan’s only window to the West and as such it is a fascinating place to visit. The atomic bomb museum and the Hypocenter Park at the spot under the bomb’s aerial detonation are sobering experiences, as they should be. The (former) island of Dejima was an artificial island where all foreign traders were islotated, first Portuguese the Dutch. It is now inland, surrounded by reclaimed land but the buildings have been painstakingly reconstructed and the area is an interesting view to the past. The ropeway to the top of Inasa-Yama gives one a spectacular view of the city and harbor and south to the ocean. I would recommend going there near sunset and staying for the emergence of the world-class night view. The Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture tells a good story of the city’s relationship with the West and it’s influence on the rest of Japan. There is a reconstruction of the Magistrate’s office that is beautiful. Gankanjima Island is a short boat trip from the city. It is an abandoned mining island which once had thousands of occupants but was abruptly deserted when the mine closed. It was the setting for a scene in the James Bond movie, “Skyfall.” All in all Nagasaki is well worth a visit. Public transportation is outstanding and it is also a good walking city. If you are on Kyushu plan to go.
I was shocked at how many restaraunts/ Izakayas there were! Spoilt for choice. I did also enjoy to easy access to Kita-Kyushu from Yukuhashi.
This hotel is located in a beautiful location, overlooking the Yufuin mountains. The room and private onsens were very clean, and the staff was wonderful and kind. They even drove us to the station for our train the morning after our stay. They provided a very high quality dinner with many courses, one of which included wagyu steak which was cooked in front of us. Overall, I highly recommend Waremokou, my partner and I traveled around Kyushu for 10 days and we both agree our single night in Yufuin was the highlight of our trip.
nice hotel that could keep your luggage for a few days if you check in again later. thats what we did when we explored further out from hakata to the rest of kyushu. easy check in and out, 2 coin laundry machines, vending machines, microwave and ice dispenser on level 1. the reception was together with the cafe which was quite unique. room size was the typical japanese sized room. layout was very thoughtful so everything needed is available. i love how the room light brightness can be adjusted just beside the bed.
The hotel is centrally located, right by the arcade mall and within walking distance of all the shopping areas and restaurants. It also sits at the intersection of two major streets, one that runs to Beppu or south Oita or an entrance to Kyushu Expressway if you plan on driving to other parts of Kyushu. The facility is on the older side, with an outdated bathroom and fewer outlets to charge devices, but these are all tolerable. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with local flavors.
Takachiho
Wow! I'm always looking for unique, one-of-a-kind stays and this one made for a stunning experience. Kind owner, gorgeous views, fresh mountain air mixed with the scent of tatami, super spacious interior that made me feel right at home. If you're looking for a sterile, bland apartment rental, perhaps this isn't for you, but if you want something different, something authentic, you'll love it. My favourite stay on my Kyushu trip!
Clean, comfortable, quiet. 2 minute walk from Kokura station which is very convenient. Unlimited rice/curry for breakfast and dinner is a lovely addition, the curry is flavoursome and rich which is really enjoyable (if only it also came with pork). Free soft drinks during the meal area availability was also really lovely after a long day out. Would high recommend for anyone staying in Kitakyushu
Taketa
The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Me and my wife absolutely loved staying at this traditional Japanese house. And although traditional, the house is very well renovated, comfortable, and clean. The room was cosy, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. I intend to return to Taketa while travelling around Kyushu and I will definitely stay again at this Hostel Cue!
Kumamoto
Amazing design. Great attention to details. Very unique property in a historic Japanese home with all the modern necessities and wonderful design. You can tell the owner put a lot of thoughts in designing the amazing interior. Also the person who greeted us was very nice and helpful, level of service definitely on par with a four star property. It was one of the highlights of our stay in Kyushu.
The room was so spacious! It was the biggest room we had during our 2.5 week trip in Kyushu and it was such a treat to end our vacation in this hotel. Also its nice that we could couple our YouTube and watch it on the tv. Not to mention the buffet which was included, we went out for dinner but lunch and breakfast was very nice. Excellent hotel and well worth the price for what you get
The dinner was simple and good. We had Pork shabu... and a small buffet breakfast that was good.. a mix of western and japanese.. So its good to book with dinner and breakfast. Hotel is just 2mins walk away from a big drug store that sells everything... .glad I chose this hotel.. as i only needed a place to rest and stopover for my long driving trip from west to east of kyushu.
Nichinan
This was an entire, traditional Japanese house with all the necessary facilities for a very comfortable stay. Nichinan is a very good base to explore the wild southern coast of Kyushu and is very close to the old samurai village of Obi where there are still many historic buildings. Our hosts were very friendly and referred us to some excellent local restaurants.
The hotel was in a very convenient location-right on top of the JR and the Monorail station. It served us well as a base to explore the Kitakyushu area. There are many restaurants, convenience stores and shops in the vicinity. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was neat and clean. We had a good view of the city from our room and the bed was comfortable.
Amazing stay at Yui's Lodge. The private onsen was an added bonus. Don't be put off by the relatively low numbers of comments on Booking, this place is definitely a gem, especially if you are looking for an authentic stay in the Japanese mountains of Kyushu. We loved our stay and Yui was an incredible host. We would love to come back again!
A classy hotel within easy walking distance of the Kokura Shinkansen station and the convention center. The rooms are nice and clean, with plenty of amenities and a beautiful view of Kitakyushu. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with both Japanese and Western offerings. The room service dinner options were also tasty and very decently priced.
New, clean, large and spacious. The bunk beds were cool and a hit for our family of 4. Convenient washer and dryer feature in the bathroom made drying clothes quicker. 7-11 was across the street. Checkin was on a tablet but someone is there to assist you if you need help. One of our favorite hotels on our Kyushu vacation.
Friendly and helpful staff, even the cleaners said 'good morning'. Very convenient to stay here. The hotel is near the shopping malls and station. I forgot my jacket in the room, so I contacted them. Luckily I got it back on time. It was all sent from Nagasaki to Yokohama! Thank you JR Kyushu Hotel Nagasaki.
Kokonoe
Great rural location in the center of Kyushu. The onsen was fabulous and my fave of all my visits. The staff were very kind and helpful. The kamon nabe(duck hotpot) was great and the kids loved the room. If you want to immerse yourself in Japanese culture this is the place.
During a road trip through Japan, we stopped in Kitakyushu and stayed at Art Hotel—a great choice with a beautiful garden. The Japanese-style room featured a wooden bathtub. It's centrally located, within walking distance of a batting cage and excellent restaurants.
Beppu
The staff are excellent . The location is best one in Beppu . The hotel room is outstanding. The dinner and breakfast are excellent too. A good quality and well designed hotel . It is the best hotel to stay in Beppu and likely best in Kyushu. I highly recommend
Incredibly close to the station! The staff was very helpful in receiving a bag I forgot at a different hotel as I traveled around Kyushu! I used Hotel Forza/ Fukuoka as my starting point and ending point to explore Kyushu. I would def stay with them again.
Breakfast was a good portion, and there was convenient transit both into Fukuoka proper and to Kyushu University, which I was visiting for work. Plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood to get dinner at as well. The price is very competitive and affordable.
