We stayed for 4 nights in the really great Sahnan Guesthouse run by Andri and his family. The rooms are functionally furnished and offer everything you need. However, you shouldn't expect European luxury. It was a perfect 4 days for us. The tours to the bat cave and the 2-day jungle trek were great adventures and are highly recommended if you have enough courage and a very good basic level of fitness. Andri and his family made our stay particularly enjoyable. The food was always excellent and the always open, friendly and supportive nature of all the hosts made us feel almost at home. Andri speaks very good English so that the organisation of all tours and transport was very easy. We would recommend the Sahnan Guesthouse to anyone and would love to come back when we are in Sumatra.

Sam is an attentive and friendly owner and his staff are excellent! Pipie his main guy was always there to chat and help plus he played Rummikub with us at night! The restaurant was very good with a great selection of food with amazing value! They booked out car from Medan and gave a motorbike ride to the hotel which added to our experience! We also booked a jungle trek with Andre and Rama as our guides… they were patient and fun to hang with and the provided a wonderful lunch plus we saw six Orangutans with a mom and baby within 5ft! A definite recommend to our friends !

Facing the beachfront, Jungle Inn Bukit lawang offers 2-star accommodation in Bukit Lawang and features a garden, private beach area and terrace. the location is incredible - gorgeous walks and opportunities to spot monkeys, lizards, bright butterflies - overlooking the river and jungle and with a private waterfall on the land. the staff were incredible and went out their way to help us, and were there to answer any question. We came with two year old twins who can be a handful and they made us feel extremely welcome, and helped lug and entertain the boys on the trek into the jungle to see the orangutans (we saw 4!)

We went on the jungle trek and stayed overnight. Our guide, Kinol was so helpful and went at our pace. Are, his outsider carried the food. We stopped at 11 for delicious fruit. For lunch we had chicken, fried rice, tomato and cucumber. The camp on the river was well set out. Dinner was different curries.. Delicious! We saw orangutans including a big male. Different species of monkey and other interesting Forest creatures. Kinol had good eyes. We returned by a raft of big tyres joined together.. Very exciting..
