Fuzhou is a typical Chinese city with a lot of skyscrapers and noisy and dangerous traffic. But there are a lot of interesting sights in the downtown area and all of the good are for free like Yushan (the beautiful hill is behind the Mao statue at the large square) with a daoist and a buddhist temple and a beautiful white pagoda, or Wushan which is just a few steps away from Yushan. There are some good restaurants in a food street which is next to Wushan Lu: Follow the small road with the fancy expensive international stores and turn right at the end. Do not miss the "SanFang QiXiang" quarter with Nanhou Street. The former residence of Lin Ze Xu is worth visiting and it is for free. Some smaller old residences charge 10 or 20 RMB, but they are not always that interesting. Another nice area is XiHu park (Westlake) with another buddhist temple and the Fujian museum, which also is free. To go to the airport (very far away from downtown!) take the airport bus which leaves from WuYi Zhong Lu near the (former?) Apollo hotel. It costs 25 RMB. The park at the Yushan Square is busy at night with people dancing, singing and playing music. Be prepared that virtually nobody speaks English in Fuzhou.
Mangoes are good in Xiamen and seafood just so so... Local foods are good choice and many are not origin of Fujian food. Sight seeing and photography are good in Xiamen.
We visited in December. The weather is quite pleasant during the day but gets windy and cold in the evening.I recommend visiting Fujian Tulou (2.5 hrs away), Xiamen university (but there is a limit on the number of visitors), the Temple next to the university and the Hulishan Fortress (there is 2 reenactment one in the morning one in the afternoon). Not sure if I enjoyed Gulanyu island because of the overwhelming crowd at the ferry Pier. My favorite is vegetarian meals, from the restaurants at the Temple. Seafood is also very good too.
Tulou from Fujian province is one of the best China’s hidden gems! Beyond the astonished round ans square buildings the charm and joyful of local people make this trip absolutely delightful.

There is a washing machine and a dryer, that's a plus point. So nearby restaurants. some food stalls open up to 1am. Its walking distance to Wuyishan entrance. Would love to come back. Value for money!
The restored old building is beautiful and well maintained. The beds are comfy. Restroom/shower is clean. Our host lady tends to all details and tried her best to help whenever needed.

Very nice breakfast - the hosts were accommodating for vegetarian meal preferences. The building has an excellent view looking out on the bay and nearby islands. The hosts were exceptionally helpful in providing rides to and from the Beigan airport, providing recommendations on transportation and food options across the island, and helping us arrange ferry tickets to tour Daqiu Island.
