We hadn’t realised the hotel owner had embraced an ethos around bio sustainability, local produce and services but were pleased to have the experience of our stay. The buffet breakfast was one of the best on our trip and consisted very good quality produce. The hotel owner recommended a local restaurant, making no secret of the fact it was part of the vineyard operation owned and run by her family and it too was a truly excellent experience. The owner and staff were a delight to deal with.

The entire walk up to the Abbey is breathtaking! We loved the little golden tiles in the cobblestones that let us know we were heading up toward the Abbey, and the blue ones that told us we were approaching the Danube. The quaint peacefulness and slowed down lifestyle of Melk is a refreshing change from the faster pace of bigger cities like Vienna. The Abbey and surrounding gardens are exquisite. Highly recommend taking a ferry cruise down the river in the Wachau Valley past the other historic little towns. We would have loved to spend more time in Melk! It was one of our biggest highlights of a 10 day itinerary through Austria and Italy.
Beautiful village along the Danube in the wine region of the Wachau Valley with nice guest houses many of which are owned by winemakers. Quiet, very walkable village with a nice family run restaurant called Eigl. Village is part of a great dedicated cycling route along the Danube through many small villages and vineyards.
Nice and cozy old town with a magnificent abbey. Could be considered a "travel hub" in the Wachau valley as most Danube cruises leave from here or finish here.
Wonderful old town with great character in the centre of the Wachau region. Superb base for walking and cycling and good accommodation and dining options. Without doubt one of the most beautiful vineyard regions in the world.
rooms are upstairs; we could check in early, and spend some time in the town. We left our car in private off street parking on our checkout day with no issues. A warm breakfast was included. The restaurant part of the accommodation was welcoming and great food we enjoyed the the Wachau Valley, and the Danube River. The abbey is worth a visit too.
We had a nice 1 night stay in Melk. It's walkable/small (15-20 minutes to cross the main part of town). We enjoyed a meal at the Rathaus, going inside the Abbey, and took a bus to Krems and back. (We wanted to ride bikes but it was too early in the season so the rental was closed) Would definitely recommend a short stay in this cute town and also travel through the Wachau region!
The abbey will exceed your expectations - very informative tour in English. We can recommend a day trip to Maria Langegg, on to the Gottweig Abbey, over the river to Durnstein and back to Melk - the Wachau Valley deserves its World Heritage status, and compares with the unique South Australian experiences we can offer you back in Adelaide - try the Barossa Valley of the McLaren Vale region when you come to visit us.
Wonderful historic town in the Wachau. Huge abbey. Some nice restaurants in the centre. Cobbled streets. Good parking outside the centre. RathausKeller restaurant was fabulous. Local red wine very good.
Rossstz is in wine growing region of Wachau, so numerous wine bars serving small plates . No decent restaurant close to main Rossstz area but there were within 1km in satellites villages. Durnstein village on opposite side of Danube is beautiful and Derilict castle is well worth the visit
The Melk Abbey is gorgeous. There are other castles not far from Melk worth visiting. Due to the popularity of Melk and the Wachau region it's relatively pricey, I thinks.
We (a family with two children aged 2 and 12) stayed at the apartment for three nights in May 2024. Our experience, both in the enchanting Wachau Valley and within the apartment, was thoroughly delightful. The apartment was impeccably equipped with all the essentials, and it exuded a fresh, modern, and inviting atmosphere. The contactless check-in was seamless, and convenient parking was provided. We were also impressed by the detailed and helpful instructions from the apartment owners. We highly recommend this wonderful place!
Krems an der Donau
As the name suggests, Blick ueber Krems is part of a house perched on the hill right above the historic centre of Krems. From the private terrace, the view over Krems, the Danube river and the Goettweig closter opposite the valley is spectacular. One can spend hours just enjoying the view, and/or take it as an invitation to discover all that this part of Austria has to offer (Krems historic centre, Goettweig closter, Melk closter, Arstetten Castle, the Wachau, etc...). Only to return to a perfectly well appointed apartment.
Hotel Pension Gritsch was a good place to stay for few days, when we discovered Wachau valley. Hotel located in the middle between two historical cities Melk and Dürnstein. So, we could reach both. Clean room equipped with small refrigerator. Nights are cool and air conditioner not needed. This romantic area is absolutely quiet and clean. In the hotel there is a restaurant and vinery nearby. For good breakfast paid separately € 15 per person, was good.Free parking and free Wi-Fi. Very good place for romantic time for couples.
The hotel is centrally located in a perfect location- Weissenkirchen is a small local medievil town in the Wachau valley. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the Danube, from great local restaurants and had the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the vacation. breakfast was extraordinary and so was the personal treatment of the owners. With a car you can get to all the gems of the area. Highly recommended, very good value for money.
This hotel has it all! It is beautiful, historic, clean, perfectly located in the lovely Dürnstein, the pool and gardens are amazing and peaceful and most of all: every single member of the staff is truly wonderful, helpful, friendly and I cannot say enough good things about them all. Their wine cellar has some great whites from the Wachau and the restaurant with the terrace overlooking the Danube is fantastic!
Krems an der Donau
Large, comfortable, perfectly equipped apartment located in the charming house in the heart of Krems, which is a really beautiful town very close to Wachau wine region. Host provided with clear instructions prior to arrival. In fact, the description of the accommodation reflects the reality – I would even say it exceeded my expectations. Now I know where to stay during my next trip to Krems. Thank you.
Aggsbach

Our stay at this family run hotel was wonderful. We enjoyed the pool, the garden and the breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Large selection, quality products. The service at the hotel was excellent. The location of the hotel is very convenient, a short distance from the center, yet in a quiet area. Kremz and Wachau area are very beautiful locations. Trouble-free parking for cars and bicycles.
Fantastic localization - 5 minutes walk to the Melk Stift. The center of Melk's Old Town. Excellent breakfast. Very good vines from own shop. The house ca. 400-500 years old. On some maps from ca. 1700 being exposed in the Melk Stift, the house is visible looking as it is now. Melk is a very good starting point for the whole Wachau district (bicycle, car, ship).
The hotel is in a very good location, very good base for exploring the Wachau region. Safe and quiet area of the town, walking distance to town center. Private parking, although not very big, but lots of public parking available nearby (paying though). The hotel is in a very good condition, everything very clean. Very kind owners and staff. Breakfast OK.

Dürnstein
Simply an amazing setting! Right in the heart of the picturesque Wachau region. The accommodation comes with terrace gardens that overlook the village of Durnstein, and the Danube. Very peaceful. Also, there is an ancient way, adjacent to the hotel, leading up to the ruins of a castle of King Richard the Lion Heart fame.
Our stay at the hotel was exceptional. The breakfast was delicious, offering a variety of options each morning, and the rooms were very comfortable. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the Wachau valley. But above all, the warm, helpful hospitality made our experience truly enjoyable.
Krumnussbaum an der Donauuferbahn
Owner is a great gentleman. He was at our disposal and super polite. Apartment is comfortable and basically has everything for a comfy stay for a few days. We traveled with a baby, everything was perfect. It's located in a perfect spot for visiting Wachau valley. Good value for money.
Amazing accommodation to enjoy the Wachau! Breakfast was amazing. There was a wide range of local products. The owners were as well very friendly. Location is top! The views from the room were directly to the vineyards and the hotel os located very near to the centre of the town.
The hotel is perfect: clean, nice rooms, with a 'family' and local touch, great breakfast, and in the middle of the town. The abbey, the main sightseeing of this town, is just around the corner. And what beautiful views, from the Wachau, Donau, the abbey, its garden...
Dürnstein
The apartment is located right at the center of the Durinstein village and at the beginning of a hiking trail leading up to the castle. Midway on the hiking trail you have a fantastic panoramic view of the Wachau Valley, at least the part near Durinstein.
Krems an der Donau
The apartment is spotless, comfortably equipped and very quiet, perfect for relaxing and discovering the Wachau region. Friendly hosts and stunning views. We spent 5 nights with two kids in January 2023. Definitely ten points or more!
This is a very nice and charming hotel (a castle) with superb views to the Wachau valley and certainly located in the best spot to explore the area. The breakfast was superb and the dinner very good. Staff was generally attentive.
Krems an der Donau
Amazing apartment located in the historic center of Krems. Very friendly and kind owner, Siglinde , provided us with helpful information. Great wellcome drink - wachauer white wine! Highly recommended!
