The Neyerere Park is the largest park in Tanzania and much less touristy than the northern parks like Serengeti. The selous river camp is located just outside the park and offers an excellent starting position for game drives. You can stay in safari tents or cabins. We stayed for 3 days in the camp and we did 2 game drives where we were guided by a trainee guide from the park entrance. The other day we did a boat trip on the river and enjoyed some relaxing in the river camp. In the Neyere park we saw many animals, giraffes, wildebeast, Elefant, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, pelicans, baboons and many more. There are lions and leopards too, but unfortunately we did not see them. Although the Selous camp is outside the park, it does not feel like it. Hippos can be seen in the river and there is a group of elephants which regularly passes the camp. We had a close encounter with the male elephant of the group, so impressive. The staff of the Selous river camp is very friendly and supportive. The food they serve is delicious and we got nice lunch packages for our game drives. Definitely a place to visit again.

It was just the two of us for the 5 days with Able, so it felt very personalised. We also took an evening and morning boat down the river where we were rewarded with even more incredible experiences! Boatman Zak’s knowledge and spotting skills were also first class. Back at the river lodge, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and our meals overlooking the river were unforgettable. Our lodge was so spacious and extremely comfortable and we loved the outside shower
