Hotel Saint Sophia, hotel in Istanbul

Set in a 19th-century building and totally renovated in 2013, Hotel Saint Sophia has views over Hagia Sophia courtyard and offers luxurious rooms decorated with marble and teak wood.

Well located for a first visit but would move closer to downtown next time. Tram in front of the hotel but a taxi needed need to walk with suitcases as no access to the hotel

Great location near shops and restaurants and big mosques etc. Rooftop terrace available 24/7. Room spacious and clean. A/c and Wi-Fi worked well. Maid serviced room daily. What was the best was the staff. So helpful and friendly. Made reservations for us. Told us what to avoid. A daily breakfast was ample enough so we didn’t have to eat lunch. Full of healthy fresh choices. Loved this place.

Hagia Sophia

In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can go inside and explore both the colossal structure as well as its museum.

Westerners are not allowed on the ground floor like the blue mosque. The mosque should be a place of multi religions as let's face it, it was a church first. All should be allowed everywhere as long as prayers are respected.

Hagia Sophia itself is impressive, I certainly wouldn't recommend the so-called "museum," which is ridiculously overpriced and basically just a long, ridiculous video in a bunch of different rooms, played at the volume of a rock concert. Go watch a documentary. You'll learn a lot more.

They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan.

They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan. It has been a museum for almost 100 years, but now it is a mosque and you are not allowed to go and explore the place inside, but are confined to a small space at the ground floor of the building. Very, very sad!!

There are many many well dressed VERY friendly and helpful men willing to show you around, avoid them, do not talk to them! They are all trying to sell you something. They can get aggressive if you engage them and the try to leave, best to avoid them and keep walking.

Definitely gone down since it was turned back into a mosque from its museum status. You can't walk around snd see much of the things you were able to see before. The mosaics and freezes have been covered over again and the balconies are now out of bounds.

The hotel is situated at the heart of the old city, 3 to 5 minute's walk to Hagia Sophia, the Cistern, the Museum of Archaeology, the big mosques, the port of Marmara, and also the Grand Bazaar. I had a room with a king-size bed all to myself and it was heaven. Marble floor and part hardwood, new furniture, face bricks on two walls giving the room a fancy touch, slippers provided, toiletries, safe, mini fridge, decent AC, great shower.

The staff at the Royan Hagia Sophia were very kind and helpful. The room was very nice. The location was excellent. we walked to the major sites. The neighborhood is hilly so you have to be careful walking. There were lots of restaurants very close by. Breakfast at the hotel came with a great view. We had a wonderful stay.

Breakfast was lovely, we enjoyed the selection (different kinds of tea, pastries, olives, an omelette station, etc). Location was really perfect, steps away from a bunch of attractions (literally minutes away from Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi palace), and the staff truly went above and beyond and were super friendly, 100/10 just for the wonderful people working there. So many pretty mosaics in the hotel! The restaurant was also quite nice, we had a nice dinner there on our first night.

Hotel Poem exceeded are already high expectations. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed for many more. Upgraded one of our rooms to the Penthouse and comp'd us a day room upon out (very) early arrival. Erhan was super helpful at reception with booking us a rooftop dinner next door, booking our airport transfer, helping with our bags and more. Breakfast was delicious and staff were excellent. Perfect location--close to Hagia Sophia but down a quiet side street with no noise. 10 stars!

Amazing little boutique hotel located right in the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. You are within walking distance to Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Blue Mosque and shopping. Also, tram is few minutes away and takes you anywhere in the city. Rooms are small but very well organized, breakfast is very rich and anything we requested was provided. This stylish hotel is located in a former bank building. They even preserved the original safe room doors on the ground floor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Tatiana, the hotel’s manager, radiated hospitality. It’s a cozy, yet strikingly beautiful place. Walking distance to Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Top Kapi palace, and most other attractions of the Old Town. Plenty of good restaurants and a historic hammam right next door. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat.

The hotel has a great location, very close to Sultanahmet t1 transport and even closer to Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. The hotel’s employees are very professional and friendly, and handle all of our requests professionally and promptly. I’ve been to Istanbul more than 15 times, and this is by far the best accommodation i’ve had here, even tho I’ve been staying in 5* hotels, as well as lower rated hotels. It’s a great place for a couple that wants to explore the city tourist attractions.
