Location was great, hotel staff was wonderful ( Kyle the bellman - stellar and super helpful to us USA peeps)and we wish we could have stayed longer, esthetically it matched all 5 adults decor likes. Beds super comfy, plenty of space in rooms. music speakers and record and record players in rooms lovely. Fab Shower/bathroom. Super comfy PJ/Robes in room We had a separate toilet from the bathroom which was great, my adult kids sharing did not. Had rooftop drinks and food one night, Had taco Tuesday another night. Had stumptown coffee each day. Great gift area in lobby. great shops adjacent and so close to subway .Decor was wood, black /funky/ great vibe (young and hip) . our group was all family ranging from ages 30-60 plus, and we all LOVED it, Adult kids gave me high marks for choosing it, !! Highly recommend this hotel

You can purchase tickets for Nijo Castle online and do remember to take the full package which includes the tour of the palace (sorry, can't remember what it's called) which housed the Daimyo back then and has since been maintained. Very nice historical trip!

The first 4 floors are just museum floors - art, history of the castle, etc. If you just want to see the incredible panoramic view at the top get in the line for the elevator which skips those middle floors and goes to the 5th. Otherwise you will have to climb all the flight of stairs regardless if you want to see what's on them. Get there early though - the elevator line gets very long very quickly and the entrance line is just as bad. People start queuing up in line before it even opens.

The main part of the castle is closed and completely covered by scaffolding. There was no discount to the ticket or real acknowledgement of this at the entrance to the castle, so we felt pretty bamboozled by the time we walked in. It was a heck of a disappointment. The other sections of the grounds that were open were amazing, so I'm sure we would have loved the castle if we could go in it. The plum blossoms were also starting to bloom and they were stunning.
