I'll be honest - I completely missed that this was a hostel when I booked it. But that didn't affect my enjoyment at all, and as a solo (and generally fairly introverted) traveller it turned what would otherwise have been an enjoyable but fairly quiet stay in Hakone into something much more sociable - I wish I'd stayed there longer.
Location is great, within easy walk of the centre of Hakone and the lake, and pretty easy to get to by driving. Plenty of free parking in the area for tourists, and while it's not immediately adjacent to the hostel, it's close enough to be convenient unless you travel particularly "heavy". Bed was large and very comfortable, lounge had a great atmosphere, and the food was good too - just remember to speak to the front desk the night before if you want breakfast, as you can't show up for it that morning (there are a couple of great bakeries in Hakone, so wasn't really a bother!). Would definitely (and will very likely) stay at RoheN again.

Liked the breakfast, the Onsen, the spacious rooms. A bit isolated but the location with views of Mt Fuji was beautiful.
Surrounded by bamboo trees and hills, Yoshimatsu is a traditional Sukiya-style Ryokan (inn) with beautiful outdoor hot spring baths. Overlooking Mt.

Amazing.
Amazing. We didn't know anything about the checkpoint before we visited Hakone - we just happened to come across it as we walked along the Tokaido Road. Definitely worth a visit and the information is in English.
Location is very good, if there was no big building across the road there would be a lake view. But 7/11 store and pirate ship are within 1 minute walking distance, hakone checkpoint and restaurants are also at walking distance (10-15 minutes). Multiple bedrooms with airconditioning.
This was the perfect spot to stay on our 2 day/ 1 night use of the Hakone Freepass. It is in Hakone-Machi and very close to the Pirate Ship dock. It's a 5 minute walk to the Hakone Checkpoint and a 20 minute walk to the Moto-Hakone Shrine. The inn keeper is a great host and his chicken hot pot dinners are generous and delicious. Great value for money and recommended.
