We love our stay at the Hotel Green Plaza in Hakone. We stayed in a Japanese Style room which was a great experience. The view from our room to Mt Fuji was simply spectacular.
We enjoyed the Onsen which again had great views of Mt Fuji.
The hotel was a short walk from the Ubako Rope Car station which gives you access to Lake Ashi.
I highly recommend this Hotel

I'll be honest - I completely missed that this was a hostel when I booked it. But that didn't affect my enjoyment at all, and as a solo (and generally fairly introverted) traveller it turned what would otherwise have been an enjoyable but fairly quiet stay in Hakone into something much more sociable - I wish I'd stayed there longer.
Location is great, within easy walk of the centre of Hakone and the lake, and pretty easy to get to by driving. Plenty of free parking in the area for tourists, and while it's not immediately adjacent to the hostel, it's close enough to be convenient unless you travel particularly "heavy". Bed was large and very comfortable, lounge had a great atmosphere, and the food was good too - just remember to speak to the front desk the night before if you want breakfast, as you can't show up for it that morning (there are a couple of great bakeries in Hakone, so wasn't really a bother!). Would definitely (and will very likely) stay at RoheN again.

Great location easy to walk to many places from, the rooms were really nice traditional style but modern Japanese. Loved the private onsen! Also we ate at box Burger downstairs which we would highly recommend! Visited Lake Ashi for Mt Fuji views and also the open air museum.

It was a spacious apartment as it is the ground floor of an entire house in a nice little neighborhood. Parking was directly in front of the house. The interior felt high quality. It has a good location between the hot springs and Mount Fuji.

Hours change during weekends so be ready to wait one hour during mid afternoons.
Taxi charges are crazy - we paid USD100 to get from Odawara to Lake Ashi.

While it takes some time to get around Hakone on buses and ropeway, it's worth it. The crater is amazing and there are some excellent hikes in the area. We stayed two nights and I wish we had another day to see more towns and do more hiking.

Hakone was beautiful and provided the views of Mt. Fuji that we were hoping for. We did not have a car and travelled the area by train, cable car, ropeway and pirate ship! Get a tourist pass to make getting on and off the transportation easy. We walked for miles and used all the transportation in the pass. So much fun!

There are plenty of places to eat here in Hakone!
There are plenty of places to eat here in Hakone! The people are beautiful and extremely helpful. (to all the locals that went out of their way to help two foreign travelers, THANK YOU) The food was outstanding, we NEVER had a bad meal. We ate dinner at an out of the way resturant suggested by a nice lady I met at the coin laundrymat! (Soba noodles with local fresh vegetables and fish) The second time, our "information officer" at the hotel brought us to his friends very small local kitchen for some authentic local dinner. Again, simply delicious.
The friendlyness of the people is what made our time in Hakone unforgettable. Oh yeah, there are plenty of places to shop local japanese made products.

Beautiful country side, very relaxing and people are cordial and kind. Rode the Ropeway on Cable train and riding the Gondolas 🚠 up to see the Owakudani Valley, Black Eggs of Hakone. Surfer beds you must see. We could see the top of Mt.Fuji in a clear day.

Beautiful traditional hotel in the mountains. Our room was very spacious (twin with an onsen and it was so worth it). We have also checked out the communal onsen which had both an inside and outside pools and a very chill vibe. Amazing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast - don't expect cereal or eggs, this is very different to a European breakfast. We loved walking around the hotel in our yucatas. Overall an amazing stay. I'd also recommend the Hakone sculpture park afterwards - it's a 20 minute walk away or a bus ride.
We booked a suite with a private onsen. This was on a balcony with a mountain view. This meant all family members of both sexes could use the onsen at once (in swimsuits!)
The dinners and breakfasts were exceptional, in quality, variety and quantity of food.
There was a 600m downhill walk from the bus stop but the hotel provided transport each morning back to the bus stop.
The location was good - short distance only from Lake Ashi
One of the staff members took great pains to explain everything in English when we arrived.
Location - within walking distance to the Hakone-Yumoto station. Also close to the bus stop (we took the bus from Odawara to the hotel and also from the hotel to Hakone Checkpoint).
Food - Dinner and breakfast were amazing. Well prepared and served.
Room and Onsen - we got upgraded to room with private onsen bath due to some ongoing renovation. Room was perfect and exactly what we look forward to experience - traditional ryokan and onsen.
Staff - all lovely, respectful and accommodating.
position and view are really good for this hotel. family room are large and well equipped with kimono to be used during the stay. Onsen is well organized with indoor and outdoor pool. 2 minutes walk to the Hakone Rope line, lake cruise boat and bus connection . excellent breakfast and dinner. the hotel offer a shuttle bus from and to Odawara station (Shinkansen stops there)
Excellent location near Lake Ashi & Hakone-machi-ko port with beautiful Mt Fuji views. An authentic Japanese inn with very friendly host. The hot pot dinner was delicious!
