This massive temple may not have the star quality of Kinkaku-ji, Fushimi Inari or Kiyomizu-dera, but it abounds with charm. Head down at nightfall to see it in all its illuminated glory, with lit-up pathways flanked by pine trees, and pagodas giving off an ethereal glow. If you’re into handicrafts markets, make sure to visit on the 15th of the month.
