The hostal is located in an excellent location. Everywhere is close from there, whether to both Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol or to the metro station. On my first visit to Madrid and this hotel, I was satisfied with everything, not least the kind and helpful staff who were always helpful. If I ever come back to Madrid again, which I hope I will, I'd love to come here :-)
This is a classical and typical "Hostal" in the Spanish style (a hotel, not a hostel), in an old, well kept building. You shouldn't expect modern luxury, just old-style hospitality, although the bathroom was renovated as compared to the last time I stayed there in june 2003.
The real good part is that the hostal is at more or less 100m from Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, right in the action but far enough to avoid the noise.
The place is very central, 2 minutes walk to Puerta del Sol. Can’t get better than that and very secure and specially it was very quiet.
Place has everything you need and upon request I got a kettle.
It is not a hotel and yet, you get fresh towels every second day.
Good and fast communication.

The studio apartment was spacious. The location was fabulous. Close to Opera metro stop. 5-10 minute walk to Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol. Lots of restaurants and shopping close by.
It's super convenient. It is a cosy apartment in the middle of the city. It is just a few minutes away from Gran Via. 7 minutes away from the Metro (we only used the metro when coming from the airport). You can easily walk to the main attractions such as la puerta del sol, la palaza Mayor, the palace, ect
It was not my first time staying at a Catalonia hotel, but it was the first time in this beautiful structure of Puerta del Sol. The location is absolutely perfect, not only because it is in the very centre of the city, but also because it's super close to the underground. The lovely staff exceeded my expectations giving me un upgraded room, very comfortable, beautiful and super clean, with a nice external view. I love everything, and I'll be back soon!
The hotel was really impressive, right on a pedestrian street in the heart of Madrid, just a five-minute walk from the Plaza Puerta del Sol. It's super easy to walk everywhere from there. The staff were a pleasure to deal with and the rooms were modern, spacious and had new fittings. We were there in December and the room temperature was perfect. It was quiet and comfortable to be in.
The apartment was very well located next to Gran Via and very near Plaza de España and Puerta del Sol. Nonetheless, the street was quiet which is a plus.
The apartment has a very good layout with good-sized bedrooms, bathrooms, living area and kitchen. The bathrooms were well stocked with toiletries and kitchen with essentials.
Parking Santo Domingo is 1 min walk from the apartment which is very convenient and essential if coming with your own car.
