It was a restored building with a very modern touch
Cologne cathedral is stunning by its height, the carvings and sculptures that cover the whole building. Once inside, one is also impressed by its size and some of its windows. The reliquary of the three Magi is also kept there. It is unfortunate that the outside of such a world renowned cathedral has still not been clean and the building looms black over the town.
Visit Cologne Cathedral and the twelve superb Romanesque churches in the town as well as the Museum Ludwig, one of the finest Art Galleries we have visited. Also recommended is a trip to Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle) to see Charlemagne's amazing chapel and his famous throne (an hour by train).
The Cologne Cathedral is one of the most magnificent structures you'll ever hope to see, and is in remarkable condition given its age and turbulent history.
