Loved the location. The free left luggage facilities. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The bedding and pillows were exceptionally comfortable for us before and after our 4 day Tasman Peninsula trek. The atmosphere of the Moss Hotel was fantastic. Loved reading about the history of the building.

Salamanca Market
A Hobart classic for a Saturday morning. Just along from Princes Wharf, Salamanca Market revels in its historic setting. Against the backdrop of honey-coloured sandstone houses from the 19th century, wide-ranging stalls line the thoroughfare. On offer is an array of Tasmanian goods, from handmade clothing, funky ponchos and vintage collectables to potted plants, flowers and ceramics. And that’s before you get to the artisan food!

A wonderful market - a wide range of stalls including a wide variety of food stalls, we spent 4 hours there.
The 2 best points at Salamanca:
the entire market is a smoke free zone - even though it is open air, and,
it's a no-dogs zone, so no dog-leads to get tangled around your legs.

Compared to my visit 20 years ago - it was more ‘artisan’ work to see then - and different to other places.
Now far too packed with food stalls, & same type of stalls to be found in any large market anywhere. Hard to find the real artisans of Hobart & Tasmania.
I am from NSW and brought my cousin on this 3 week trip. Salamanca was to be a must see, but would have been better spending the day travelling further down the coast.
The uniqueness of Salamanca has been lost — sadly.

Over rated and over priced.
Over rated and over priced. Better bargain options and prices at Vinnies, Salvos, Buy4 less, at Glenorchy and CBD outlets. You are really paying for the vibe, and seeing some 2,000 people aged 40-90 come out at the same time.

If you have been to other big markets in Queensland you may find the Salmanca markets small. The fact that most people raved about these markets of course you make the effort and go. Apart from food and drink stalls I didn't find a lot of other types of stalls there.

Be ready to walk a bit. Some up hill sections that can be a little challenginmg if your unsteady or need to use a walking stick. Watch the cobble stone pavers and deceptive level changes of the side walks.

I particularly love the boutique gin, whisky and vodka distilleries at Salamanca Market. You can sample so many things in one morning, you'll definitely keep warm!!
Woodworking and photography are two other types of stallholders well-represented, as well as sensational confectionery and baked goods vendors.
You can also always find a breathtakingly gorgeous bunch of flowers straight from the growers themselves.

We recently stayed four nights at this stylish and practical apartment, perfectly situated near Salamanca Markets and the Mona ferry terminal. The thoughtful touch of fresh milk and coffee upon arrival made us feel welcome. The apartment was well-equipped, including a washing machine, car space and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Its central location allowed us to easily explore many attractions on foot. We were very appreciative of the excellent accommodation and had a wonderful experience. Thank you!
The full buffet breakfast which was included was exceptional in both quality, service and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful and the hotel was exquisitely furnished in Victorian style. The audio trail which told of famous visitors and stories in its history was quite fascinating too. The location was only a short stroll to Salamanca Markets, the harbour and the city - excellent location. I wouldn't think twice about booking Hadley's Orient Hotel on my next visit to Tasmania :)
Great location and within walking distance to CBD, Constitution Dock, Museums and Salamanca Markets. The apartment was very well equiped and comfortable.Having onsite paid parking was a bonus.
We had the ground floor unit - the apartment was very comfortable & clean. The location is excellent too - we could walk to the vibrant Salamanca market (on Saturdays only); to the Harbour to catch ferry rides & also to catch the airport bus (a 10-minute walk, we rolled our luggage!). Carol was also quick to respond & very helpful throughout our stay. We will definitely recommend Scarlett & will stay there again if when we next visit lovely Tasmania!
Excellent location close to Salamanca Market. The airport Skybus drop off is only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Nice spacious room with large fridge and cooking facilities. Good shower over bath in a modern style bathroom.
Apartment was immaculate and very well equipped. Fabulous location within minutes of all amenities.
Emily was very helpful and was able to provide 2 x portacots and 2 x high chairs for our 9 month twin grandchildren.
Great day trips to Bruny island and heaps of local walks.
The Derwent ferry goes from the marina to Franklin Wharf, perfect for visiting Salamanca Market
There was nothing to fault.
The apartment had lovely views of the pier and ideal access to town centre, tour bus stops, cafes, local fruit and veg, restaurants, and as a bonus Salamanca markets on Saturday. Marti the manager and also the cleaners were very helpful in keeping my luggage safe on day of departure.
The room was very clean, and modern bathroom with great shower. The bed was very comfortable. We had a great night sleep for our 1 night stay. Breakfast was fabulous - every choice you could want in a buffet. The location was within easy walking distance of Salamanca Markets, which is the reason we chose this hotel. The staff were very friendly on check-in and check out. Would highly recommend.

Hobart has some of the best restaurants in Australia because they use their fresh produce which Tasmania is famous for. Their bakeries are second to none, certainly Brisbane doesn't have bakeries like Daci & Daci or Jackman and Ross. Salamanca Market has a plethoria of restaurants to cater to every culinary desire and were top notch. I can't wait to go back and sample some more!
