First, the bed and pillows were maybe the softest, most comfortable I've ever experienced. Really. Next, the staff was amazing: friendly, congenial, informative, caring and responsive. Also, the bathroom and shower were first rate... best of our trip. The shower water always came out hot and strong! Also, the place was so very, very quiet. Lastly, the food served at the downstairs restaurant was really, truly good. We were so impressed with the Sauteed Mushrooms in Garlic Sauce on Chibatta... and the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Great location after a long days hike. Particularly liked the excellent drying room so my boots were dry in the morning. Steak & ale pie + in-house beer and eggs Benedict in the am. Packed lunch to go. This is the place to stop
Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening – distinguishing them from country or guest houses.
The bed was very comfortable and in a very big bedroom. The bathroom is also large and great size shower. The whole place was very clean and a small welcome gift was awaiting our arrival. The Boatside Inn, very popular but amazing service and food
A lovely warm welcome from the owners.
Food was delicious (dinner and breakfast), room and bathroom all perfect sizes.
Secure storage for our bicycles.
Excellent, friendly service, welcomed our Labrador, excellent dinner and breakfast. Proper natural yoghurt, fresh fruit, as well as a tasty cooked breakfast. Able to be served in the bar with Barney, the Labrador. Good shower too. Quiet location in beautiful countryside.
Very pleasant stay. The landlady was kind to order a taxi as the inn was still too far away to reach in time in the evening from Hadrian´s Wall. Great evening meal and breakfast. Very comfortable beds and a fantastic bathroom.
Good access to everything in the area, just over 4 miles to Hadrian’s Wall. Very attentive staff and excellent meals prepared by the owner. Very old coaching inn with every modern facility.
I stayed at the Red Lion on a trip along Hadrians Wall cycleway. The room was very lovely with a comfortable bed. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I had dinner in the pub and it was very good
It’s central to Hadrians wall and in a quiet area. It’s a mixture of locals and tourists mostly. Sue is also an amazing cook and the food is delicious . Dinner and breakfast were delicious. I will definitely go back again when possible .
Delightful inn, the rooms were excellent - clean, comfortable, and recently refurbished.
Secure storage for 4 bikes.
The restaurant had an extensive and varied menu and the food was excellent.
Good choice of ales and cider in the bar and plenty of tables to sit outside.
