Small is beautiful! Come & stay at our gorgeous family run Glamping site in the heart of Royal Deeside & the Cairngorms. We have 4 Glamping Pods and an off-grid Shepherd's Hut on a gorgeous tiny campsite alongside a communal cabin, the Snug. All in the heart of Royal Deeside and with great views of Glen Gairn. Our Standard Pods sleep 2 adults on comfy futon beds, and can be set up as either Twin or Double. Our larger Luxe Pod can sleep 2 adults on a custom built fixed double bed, as well as 1 child up to age 10 on a roll out Bundlebed with bedding. Pods are fully insulated, with heaters (just in case!), with electricity. Our Shepherd's hut is a unique off-grid accommodation which can sleep 2 adults on a custom built fixed double bed. This accommodation is off-grid, has no electricity, and has sola lighting and a cosy wood burning stove. There is access to plug sockets/electricity 24/7 in our shared space, the Snug, if needed. All accommodation has shared toilets (not en-suite). The Wash House is our fully heated shower block, with 2 self contained shower rooms, each with low flush loo and sink. Our showers are gas powered, providing you with lots of lovely hot water on demand. Two covered outside sinks are available for washing up, also with free hot water. We have a shared indoor space, The Snug, for cooking and eating on wet days. It has a wood burning oven & stove. You can also find local information, and books & games in there.
Howe of Torbeg is a lovely peaceful place, in a tranquil rural location, with great views & facilities. Perfectly located in the Cairngorms countryside, with great access just off the A939 & only 5 miles from the picturesque village of Ballater with its shops, restaurants & cafes. Use one of our fire pits or your own trusty camping stove for your cooking. Logs, kindling & charcoal are available to purchase onsite. For topping up your provisions Ballater is less than a 5 minute drive away and has an excellent butcher, a bakery, a fantastic deli and a good sized Co-op. If you fancy eating out, Ballater also has a great choice of local cafes & restaurants. What to Bring: Bring camping kit including food, or just eat out. It's a good idea to bring a torch or headtorch for walking around the site after dark. Please bring a cool box in the summer if you have perishable food as we don't have a guest fridge on site
For stretching your legs, there's plenty of walk and paths you can access on foot straight from your pod. Further afield, Royal Deeside is a walker’s paradise, for both leisurely strolls and all out hikes. There is a wealth of road and mountain biking in easy reach of Howe of Torbeg and plenty of family friendly biking too. Nearby Ballater is surrounded by circular routes typically lasting between 1 and 4 hours. The Deeside Way, starting in Ballater, provides an enjoyable off road cycle track along an old railway line, with tearooms and views of the River Dee en route. Apart from the great outdoors, there are castles and distilleries aplenty in easy reach and Ballater has excellent independant shops & a farmer's market. Howe of Torbeg is also ideally situated to access 2 of Scotland's ski resorts, The Lecht & Glenshee. Both are approximately half an hour's drive away. Both run ski schools & hire equipment
