With a picturesque setting on the banks of the River Dee, this charming Scottish mansion dates back to 1225 AD, and was once home to the Knights Templar.

The hotel is historic, and very comfortable. I loved sitting in the Great Hall for a pre dinner drink. The breakfast was also grrat.

The staff were extremely kind and helpful. They took our luggage as we arrived before check-in so we could go and walk to Dunnottar Castle. The breakfast help was welcoming and thoughtful, and the food was good. It is very conveniently located to the train.

Lots of places to walk, along the river bank, up the hillside to the tower, or just around the towns.
Plenty of variety of places to eat or shop.
Easy to move around and visit local sights, except when there is a big storm which tends to flood some of the roads, so I would avoid them if it is possible at all to do that?

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner out on the Friday evening, Italian Mama Mias in Banchory was great fun, upbeat, great staff and food. We had booked the hotel for Friday evening as a bolt hole stop prior to attending a family wedding on the Saturday. We had also contacted local hair dressers Riah Hair long before arriving. The staff at that salon were lovely on all counts, with great intentions BUT I would not recommend them for wedding guest hair styling. My hair clips fell out within a few hours and my daughters curls that took an hour to set, dropped within the first hour of leaving the salon despite copious amounts of awful hairspray being applied. :(

I love a stay at Banchory even if just for two nights. You feel that you are away and can relax. recharge the batteries so to speak. the view of the river just makes it that bit better. Glass of wine in the bar reading my book before dinner is a bonus.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. It has extensive grounds on the banks of the River Dee. The rooms are very well decorated and maintained and the restaurant is excellent.
