I had no real desire to go to Las Tunas, but after backpacking around Ecuador and Peru for a while, all of the favorite people I met on the road seemed to have the exact same recommendation: Go to Onda Hostel. So I texted the hostel owners on Whatsapp, where they proceeded to be somehow genuinely interested in answering my millions of questions over text before I arrived, arranging for transport, and even picking me up a massive guanabana just because I casually mentioned once I'd like to try it. The beds are comfortable, the A/C is cool, and the coffee is endless, but it's truly the people that make this place great. The owners are passionate about building a community and they instill that same stoke in their volunteers. If you're looking to stay in a place with some atmosphere, there is none greater in the Americas. I booked at this hostel for two days and stayed on for weeks, only leaving because I had to. Super nice and helpful staff with great English, super beautiful garden (kind of private jungle), beautiful, clean and equipped bungalows, greatly equipped facilities. Recycling, a book full of local tips in the bungalow, beach with equipment, extraordinary breakfast. Awesome value off-season.

Located on the beach, within a 25-minute drive of Montañita and a 15-minute drive of Puerto Lopez, Viejamar B&B offers direct access to the beach. An outdoor swimming pool, and a garden are featured and free Wi-Fi and continental breakfast are included. The location on the beach next to a quick and powerful beach break is awesome. The volunteers that stay there were a constant highlight. The amenities and pool were very good.

Great hosts, good vibes, delicious croissants and pain du chocolate 😏, clean and peaceful. Totally recommend!
