Set by a river, this Lakeland YHA in Borrowdale Valley has fine mountain views and an informal atmosphere. Enjoy family-friendly walks, laundry facilities and hot meals.

The location was ideal for our purposes of walking the Borrowdale Corridor Route to Scafell Pike. The communal areas were large, comfy and the bar was well stocked! Bed linen was excellent as were the quilts!

Staff were friendly and gave suggestions for hiking routes, rooms were clean, the location gave me the escape that I needed, but note that it is tricky to reach without a car.

    Buttermere YHA is a traditional youth hostel and ideal for those who love the spectacular scenery and proximity of the fells and lakes. I particularly like the fact that is always attracts people with a genuine appreciation of the area and love of walking. All the staff were friendly and helpful.
