The location was ideal for our purposes of walking the Borrowdale Corridor Route to Scafell Pike. The communal areas were large, comfy and the bar was well stocked! Bed linen was excellent as were the quilts!

Staff were friendly and gave suggestions for hiking routes, rooms were clean, the location gave me the escape that I needed, but note that it is tricky to reach without a car.

Great location with parking. Good information board and food offerings. Close to Coniston and facilities. We booked a private room for 2 and had our own 5 berth room. I would definitely go back.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
Buttermere YHA is a traditional youth hostel and ideal for those who love the spectacular scenery and proximity of the fells and lakes. I particularly like the fact that is always attracts people with a genuine appreciation of the area and love of walking.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
Good location for mountain hiking and trip to Scafell Peak. Standard is ok for youth hostel.
