Albergue de la Piedra, hotel in Villafranca del Bierzo

Albergue de la Piedra is located in Villafranca del Bierzo, within 13 miles of Las Médulas Roman Mines and 13 miles of Lake Carucedo.

I loved staying in this hostal for 2 days during my recent Camino. It was clean and spacious and airy - and it had regular beds (no bunk beds). It is just a few minutes walk from the main square in Villafrance del Bierzo. It has a kitchen, but I went out to the restaurants in the immediate area.

Albergue Guiana, hotel in Ponferrada

Set in the heart of Ponferrada's historic center, Albergue Guiana is just 2 minutes' walk from the Templars Castle, Encina Basilica and the Museum of Bierzo y de la Radio.

My stay was wonderful. I stayed in November/December and it was pretty empty. I booked a dorm for two nights and for the first night it was essentially a private room. The beds were comfortable. The room was bright during the day, but had the option to close a heavy sliding wall to block out noise and light from the street. The bathrooms and lockers were in a separate part of the dorm which was perfect if there were a lot of people staying there. Everything was immaculately clean. Great laundry facilities (a bit expensive for machines, but easily could hand wash in a utility sink). They constantly played gentle jazz music in the lobby and in the evenings they put out small treats for free:) An absolute refuge to return to in the city. Particularly restful, as I needed to stay there mid-camino to let my blisters heal. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place in Ponferrada, look no further.

I am now finished the full Camino and this has been the best stay of my 33 night journey. Juan is amazing. So welcoming and even carried my bag to my comfortable single bed. Such a luxury not to have a bunk bed here. Clean sheets included. So nice. So clean. Hotel like quality . The dinner was also amazing and not like a hostel or typical pilgrim dinner. Thank you Juan. Keep up the good work and thanks for being the best host on my journey in a lovely town. I want to rate this 11.0 out of 10 :)

Great hostel in Villafranca del Bierzo! The host is extremely friendly and helpful! It's clear that this is a very new and modern hostel. Everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and there was a washer and dryer to do laundry. Breakfast was great before heading out in the morning! Great location in the town, easily walkable to everything! Highly recommend staying here!

.Sonia, the owner, is magnificent! Her spirit of care, and giving and attentiveness is present in every detail in the albergue. The fabric sheets, the amazing garden and sofas in it, the cleanliness, the written signs - everything says care, love and attentiveness. It's probably the best hostel I stayed in during my Camino, and not necessarily because it was the fanciest, but it was the one that made my heart the happiest. Thank you Sonia!

By far the best hostel/albergue experience I have ever had. Juan is such a kind host and went out of his way to make sure all the guests were beyond comfortable. The food was fantastic and he accommodated my tricky vegan requests. It's such a beautiful and well maintained facility, you're missing out if you don't stay here!

It's probably the best hostel I've stayed in on the Camino. It was like a resort hotel. 10 single beds (not bunks) in the room with clean cotton sheets, plenty of space, a nice modern bar, and a garden terrace. Dinner cooked by hosptalero's mother was well above average for a pilgrim meal, as was the wine, which was local. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Stunning hostel situated on the Camino de Santiago. The hostel is new and immaculate, it has a terrace facing the garden which is a lovely place to sit back and enjoy a glass of the wine that comes from the owners vineyard. The host was so welcoming and kind, and the food prepared by his mother was delicious. Bathrooms were clean and the dormitory had single beds with bedside tables, lamps, plenty of power outlets. The design is very modern and really smart. A beautiful hostel.
