Probably the best place I ever stayed at, price to quality ratio is through the roof, room was very cozy, bathroom super clean and comfy, the host made dinner for us and we chatted and mingled in a small group until 1am 🥺 Amazing experience

Extremely cute place run by the sweetest Taiwanese couple. They speak multiple languages - Japanese, Chinese and English. They were also super helpful with providing us with all of the necessary information, ensuring that we were well taken care of for breakfast (amazing with proper coffee) and transport. The place was so warm and cozy with heated floors in the rooms which is a great plus for us who don’t do well with the cold.

Near to Ropeway 3, convenience store, sake museum, and onsen. Plus points for the delicious barbecue restaurant in front of the hotel. The hosts Oraphin and Taka were very warm and spoke great English too. They had a lot of stories to share and it was such a pleasure to stay in their company. Coffee and tea were provided in the common area. Clean and well-kept place!

Yamagata bölgesindeki Zao Onsen'de, Zao Onsen Kayak Merkezi'ne 300 metre mesafede yer alan Matsuo House - Max 3 person Room Fuyu'da ortak salon bulunmaktadır. Absolutely amazing. The hosts are the loveliest people and really welcome you into their home. They take a lot of effort into making sure that you're enjoying your stay in Zao Onsen. They show you the layout of the town and give great recommendations for various activities that you'd like to do. I felt really cared for. It's a true authentic Japanese experience. Highly recommend!

I stayed at Zao Onsen for 3 nights during my solo travels in Japan in early 2025. The walk from Zao Onsen Bus Terminal to Matsuo House was about 5 minutes and allowed me to get a feel for the small onsen town: from the quaint shops and restaurants, to the scent of sulfur from the hot springs, and the ski resort towering over you from almost every angle. I immediately fell in love with it. Matsuo House was the perfect accommodation to complement such a magical destination. The hosts and their charming young daughter were more than happy to converse with and assist their guests, speaking in several languages. All guest rooms were on the second floor, lined with tatami mats and large windows that offered views of the snowy streets outside. The futon provided was warm and comfortable, perfect for a good night's rest after skiing. Upon check-in, one of the hosts provides two maps and helps you learn the layout of the town, offering tips and tricks to ensure the best possible experience. They provide onsen passes and discounts, recommendations and discounts for local ski rental shops, and essential information on what to do and where to go. The ski resort is about a 10-15 minute walk from Matsuo House, and you can find at least 10 onsens within a 15-minute walk. The town's only 24-hour convenience store (combini) is also less than a 10-minute walk away. If you're seeking a getaway from the crowds and wish to experience Japan's countryside beauty, visit Zao Onsen and stay at Matsuo House to truly immerse yourself in the culture and natural splendor. I can't wait to come back!

Yamagata Bölgesi'ndeki Asahi-machi'de, Yamagata'ya 18 kilometre mesafede yer alan Daichan Farm Guest House barbekü ve kapıya kadar kayak erişimi sunmaktadır. Konukevinde teras ve kayak okulu vardır. The owner is welcoming and enthusiastic. The meals were home-cooked, and quite delightful. The owner helped us facilitate a side trip in the area, very kindly. It's a remote rural location, which has its own beauty.

Tsuruoka şehrinde Kamo Akvaryumu noktasına 24 km mesafede bulunan Shukubo Daishinbo tesisinde bahçe, sigara içilmez odalar ve tesis genelinde ücretsiz WiFi mevcuttur. The hosts were so accommodating and it was an amazing experience staying in a Daishinbo. Very close to the start of the walking trail to Mount Haguro. The variety of beautiful food that was served was incredible. On the whole a fantastic experience and one I would highly recommend

Kaminoyama'da yer alan Yamagata Zao Pension Aplon Stage, manzaralı bir havuza sahiptir. Kapısına kadar kayakla ulaşabileceğiniz tesiste ücretsiz WiFi erişimi, bahçe ve restoran mevcuttur. This is a great pension run by a lovely family. The husband picked us up at the bus station and drove us to the pension and also took us to the slopes in the morning. They gave us a coupon for renting gear and a map explaining the different onsen options around town. Their English is pretty limited, but they are happy to use Google translate. Also, it was not a big deal, but I think it is important for foreign guests to be aware that ski culture in Japan sort of assumes you are eating dinner at your accommodation. We did not know this and did not book dinner at the hotel. Most restaurants in town were fully booked with reservations (although there is a convenience store with good takeaway food), so try to book dinner at the hotel or make a dinner reservation somewhere well in advance. We were very luck and managed to make a reservation at the Mongolian lamb place Kasheru for the second night and that was amazing. But we saw restaurants turning people away repeatedly because everywhere in town was full. Also, the family will not pick you up by car any later that 6:45 pm (perfectly reasonable) and the public ski shuttles don't run on weekdays, so you need to pre-book a taxi if dinner will end later than that (which it probably will since most restaurants open at 6 pm). And there are not a lot of taxis and no Uber. I wish I had realized all of this up front, but that was our own ignorance and our stay was great regardless. Again, this is just the local ski culture and not the hotel's fault. It's just helpful information for future guests.

Zao Onsen şehrinde, Zao Hotsprings Ski Resort noktasına 600 m mesafede yer alan Petit Resort Hotel Der Barte tesisi bahçe, özel park yeri, ortak oturma alanı ve restoran olanağı sağlar. This was a wonderful boutique ski in ski out resort with wonderful food and friendly service. It was exactly what we were after!
