Guesthouse Mintaro Hut provides basic rooms, free use of a kitchen and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Free-use laundry facilities are available. I loved my stay at Mintaro Hut. Sato-san is a great host! This guesthouse is definitely a great experience for anyone who wants a chill and family-like stay during their trip. Home cooked meals for dinner, all facilities are very clean and my room was very comfortable. The location is right next to Kajo Park and also near the train station (15 min walk). Great location for anyone who wants to explore Yamadera (15 min away by train).

Near to Ropeway 3, convenience store, sake museum, and onsen. Plus points for the delicious barbecue restaurant in front of the hotel. The hosts Oraphin and Taka were very warm and spoke great English too. They had a lot of stories to share and it was such a pleasure to stay in their company. Coffee and tea were provided in the common area. Clean and well-kept place!

Taka and Oraphin are extremely professional, but also very warm, nice and available. There was a powerful heater in the bedroom, and the (large) living room is heated with a fireplace. Very calm at night. Can help yourself freely with coffee and tea. All the necessary informations about the village (convenience store, onsen, even the ski resort, etc.) are explained (very clearly) at your arrival by the host(s) (who can speak many different languages fluently, including but not limited to, English and Japanese, Chinese). About the village and the ski resort: there are many traditional onsen in the village, which can be experienced without charge. Overall, the ambiance in the village is very nice, there are many restaurants which are good (among one where the owner can speak French). The ski resort is quite huge, and very natural. We had the chance to see the famous snowy trees on the top of the mountains, for many days (so it's for real!). Very recommended.

Boasting a shared lounge, Matsuo House - Room Fuyu is situated in Zao Onsen in the Yamagata region, 300 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort. Zao onsen is a beautiful town, a great place to go skiing but our stay was memorable thanks to the big kindness of Oraphin and Taka. They are such beautiful people, willing to help you and to make sure you have everything you need. We bring back home wonderful memories and we wish to come back. Thanks again!

Set amidst a natural landscape, Yamagata Zao Pension Aplon Stage offers a peaceful retreat. Just a 2-minute drive from Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Resort, it provides cosy rooms. the owners are very helpful and friendly. they served us really good breakfast. we felt like home. we will definitely go back during summer.

Located within the Uwanodai skiing ground, the charming Petit Resort Hotel Der Barte offers ski-to-door access, cosy Western rooms and French course dinners. Wonderful stay, very pleasant staff with good communication skills for multiple languages, affordable, clean, great meal service! Would recommend to everyone.

Only a 5-minute walk from the Pagoda at Mount Haguro, Shukubo Kanbayashi Katsukane offers Japanese-style rooms, vegetarian Japanese meals and free Wi-Fi. To stay in a traditional setting really made our visit to Dewa Sanzan area special. The dinner options where all the food is locally sourced and prepared- incredible experience.

Only a 1-minute walk from the Zao Onsen Ski resort, Pension Puutaro offers Japanese-style rooms, a French course for dinner and free Wi-Fi. As well as having a separate entrance to the dry room, the location is very close to the ski slopes.

Featuring a garden, Snowfall Meteor 飛雪流星 is located in Kaminoyama in the Yamagata region, 2.2 km from Zao Onsen Ski Resort. The guest house features family rooms. A lovely and heartwarming place to stay for a winter getaway. The couple that owns this business made us feel like family. Mao and Qu are so kind and welcoming. They treated us like family. They picked us up from the bus station, drove us to a wonderful dinner location (which they recommended), drove us to the ski resort, and helped with all our luggage. I was so happy to meet them and talk with them. The room is just as warm as the owners. The floors are heated and the beds are very comfortable. I wish I could’ve stayed longer.
