I would highly recommend the Griya Asih, it is an beautiful traditional House with 6 rooms. The staff were always very helpful and kind and we ended up, due to illness, relying on their help a bit. It's a small team of staff and they were just great. The breakfast was very very good, and resulted in us not needing lunch, it consisted of local food that was very well cooked and presented, and there was European choices as well. The rooms were clean and quite big and the on-suite bathroom was clean with an excellent shower that could deliver a real blast of water if needed. It's in a quite road about 150 meters from a main square that comes alive with families and friends at night, it's clearly a local focal point and was fun to walk around in the evening. Overall a really good 5 nights.

"NOMORE" Gallery and Guesthouse is situated in the Kraton district of Yogyakarta, less than 1 km from Museum Sonobudoyo, a 13-minute walk from Fort Vredeburg and less than 1 km from Yogyakarta... Lala and Rolly were really lovely and helpful! Also delicious breakfast and very nice coffee.

Friendly staff will help to organize your stay either with your excursion or scooter rental. They gave me an idea on how to organize my trip here in Java. Featuring an outdoor swimming pool and views of mountain, Blue Garden Yogyakarta is a recently renovated guest house located in Yogyakarta, 11 km from Museum Sonobudoyo. It is out in a rural area well outside the city. Very peaceful and relaxing. Room was super clean and air conditioned with a large bathroom ( no a/c) and mini bar. ( Beer and cokes only) It has a small but good restaurant ( reserve meals in advance) and a lovely garden and pool. Looks out on rice fields with birds and nature all around. It is close.to a mosque and you can definitely hear the call to prayer. It added to the atmosphere for us and they turn down the loudspeaker for the 4am call to prayer!. You can borrow the bikes and ride through the working rice fields leased from the sultan. You certainly get to see authentic rural Javanese life but its not for those who want any kind of nightlife! Beer available but no wine, so bring your own if you want to relax over a glass while getting your authenticity!
