Comfortable stay in Chikatsuyu along the Kumano Kodo. Ike (the host/owner) was incredibly kind - he offered to take me to an onsen, to do laundry, etc. He even suggested some changes to my Kumano trek plan that were 100% an improvement. And his homemade okonomiyaki is excellent, he used to work in a restaurant! Would definitely stay again.

What a delightful place! We loved our stay here. Mayumi is such a gracious host, and she has thought of so many details to make your stay comfortable. We stayed on a hot summer night, and the air conditioning unit in our room was great. The whole town of Kii-Tanabe is so charming, and Ichie Guesthouse seems to capture the feel of it. If you are looking for traditionally Japanese lodging with small town charm, this is the ideal place. We hope to visit again.

Very friendly and caring host. He let me check in early and even switched on the AC for me before I arrived. It was scorching hot but the room felt cool and comfortable. The host also recommended places to eat and it was really good. He also knows a lot about kumano kodo which if you are going, you should stay here to get some guidance. Felt safe. There is also an aikido museum that I'd recommend people going. It's walking distance from the house. 👍👍

A no-frills traditional Japanese guesthouse run by a very nice lady. Sleep on futons in tatami rooms. It was only our family and a Japanese couple staying, so the shared bathroom was not a problem at all. A five-minute walk from Kii-Tanabe Station and with many restaurants nearby.

Also has electric boot dryers (handy when walking through a typhoon lol) for use. Definitely book ahead for this one if on trail, All modern and clean. Basic Brekkie but ok. Highly Recommend.
Beautiful property perched in the mountains near the start of the Kumano Kodo trail. Simon and his wife were great hosts providing a shuttle up to their house and then again to the start of the trail. The room was traditional and beautifully finished and we even sampled some homemade plum wine!

The host was very friendly. He shared homemade plum wine with us, which was super delicious, and he also provided us with some oranges. He also gave us route guidance and shared the bus schedule with us. What I liked most was that the host picked us up from Tanabe Station and sent us from the homestay to Takijiri the next day, so we saved the bus fare.
