Taka and Tonari were super helpful to explain everything about the guest house and they even called the fish restaurant nearby to make sure they could prepare a vegetarian dish for me. During the morning a very small earthquake occurred and Tonari immediately came over to see if anyone got scared. Everything was clean and neat. We also appreciated the house rules because even though all guests were staying in dorms/semi private room it was always quiet.

You get your own little house with kitchen and possibility to do laundry. The house is in such a good condition and in a nice Japanese style. The host is super friendly and helpful.

Really lovely owner that even took us to the local onsen and picked us up. Also reserved a place at a local restaurant, so we wouldn't go hungry. The location is in a quiet neighbourhood and the night sky was cool to see with all the stars. Could store our bicycles under a roof too. Really comfortable beds and pillows.

Everything. If you are planning on cycling the Shimanami Kaido (and even if you aren’t!) I’d highly recommend taking a detour from the main route and spending some time here.

Cinnamon Guesthouse Dogo is situated in the Dogo Hot Spring district of Matsuyama, 1.7 km from Miyukiji Temple, 2.3 km from Ishitegawa Park and 2.7 km from Matsuyama castle. Nice environment, great location, nice renovation of the building as a guest house. There are guitars in the living room I enjoyed playing a bit. Good facilities, they even allowed me to park my bicycle inside.

Located in Matsuyama, the recently renovated いわしの子守唄 Sardine Lullaby provides accommodation 3.8 km from Taisanji Temple and 4.7 km from Enmyoji Temple. The amazing breakfast and the heart warming friendliness of the hosts are the biggest advantages of this place. Strolling through the little harbour town Mitsu is lovely and the train will take you in 15 mins to downtown Matsuyama.

敷島旅館, a property with a garden and a shared lounge, is set in Saijo, 31 km from Henjou-in Temple, 32 km from Kawara Museum, as well as 32 km from Kawaranofurusato Park. Shikishima is a hidden gem ryokan just short train ride outside of Imabari. The staff were extremely kind and I feel their level of service is above and beyond the cost to stay. I was able to enjoy a divine soak in their bath after a long day of cycling and the host carefully washed and folded my laundry for a very low fee. I enjoyed speaking Japanese with the host and helping some other English-speaking guests communicate with her too! A truly wonderful experience. My travelling partner and I loved the rice balls and local mikan orange for breakfast. Simple but delicious food, and clearly made with love using local ingredients. I wish I could have stayed for another night and enjoyed the evening meal too. The host was so friendly and made many suggestions for our trip when we shared our plans. I look forward to coming back to Shikoku and visiting the places she talked about. Thank you!
