Traditional style guesthouse with great hosts. Can be a bit noisy as in many traditional Japanese houses. If this really bothers you, make sure to check out their second location.

This was some of the best food that I got on the trip - the host made dinner right in front of us and was able to accommodate my vegetarianism, which was excellent. I would absolutely stay here again and will recommend to all my friends.

One of the best places I’ve stayed in a long, long time
Guesthouse is beautiful, very comfortable and extremely well-designed
Owners are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. All the little details are taken care of - whether it’s the little spoons for stirring your coffee, or the olives served alongside dinner, or the thicker toilet paper (so many places in Japan use 1-ply!), or the yukata jacket provided because it was so cold. Or the fact they make an effort to cater to guests’ dietary requests, AND serve a Western-style meal for dinner because they know after many days in Japan, foreign guests might want something a bit more familiar to their palate.
Just such a thoughtful place all around

I love the layout and setup of this guesthouse which feels really traditional - there is a courtyard, it leads to the lavatory, etc. Complimenting this homey atmosphere was the owner who is such a warm, welcoming lady.
The floors are heated! The rooms, which are very spacious, are heated.
I loved that my room had a light that could be turned on and off with a remote control haha
Water from the kitchen tap is drinkable.
Super central location - it’s a 5-7min walk from Kii-Tanabe train station, the 7-11, the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre and the bus stop to the start of the Kumano Kodo Trail.

Warm welcome from our host. We had the whole house for us. Nice overall, just a bit cold (we were there in December) in the kitchen. Kind messages on the breakfast pack (optional), but I think it would be great to inform that it is only sponge cakes, and not Japanese type, but we could have asked before :)
We enjoyed the place.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.

We arrived at the guest house after walking our first day in the Kumano Kodo. We had delicious meals! One of the highlights was the Okonomiyaki! Everything was prepared with love. The host is very kind and speaks English, so we could have a very nice conversation. Thank you for having such beautiful details during our stay as part of our honeymoon :)
It's a really quiet and friendly guest house, I would book it again anytime! Everything was very clean, spacious and comfortable. I got there really good advice before Kumano Kodo.
I arrived late in the evening by train and I was happy that the guesthouse is so close to the train station. The host was very friendly. Everything was very clean and I slept like a baby because it's a very quiet place.
- Great location for the Kumano Kodo
- Ike and his wife were great hosts, served us a delicious Okonomiyaki dinner and packed lunch for the trek.
- Clean room and facilities
This was in a great location with wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the communal meals immensely and had the best packed lunch of our trip. The meals were home cooked with local ingredients. The host explained the origins of all the dishes and went out of his way to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This guest house is newly renovated with very good facilities for bathing, a communal kitchen, a dining area and new beds and bedding.
Great location across from train/bus station. Quiet, I think because it was a holiday, few people in the hostel, and downstairs bar was closed. Comfortable bed. Clean. Juan checked us in, very friendly, but no staff around after 4pm.
Generously looked after by our wonderful host Ike at this homely guesthouse. Very clean, comfortable and nice to eat dinner with other guests. Great location for Kumano Kodo walk.
Really nice place to stay, inside of an old house that serves as a coffee shop during daytimes. Miyumi is a great host and speaks English, so we chatted a bit about our Kumano Kodo trail and she gave us some tips. For breakfast she made us some delicious sponge cake to bring with us on our hike!
It's a very quiet area and in walking distance from the station, so very convenient all around.
